  1. Turning the screw

Lewis Hamilton said he wanted to finish the season strongly and it looks like he is on course to do that after dominating both sessions today.

Here's Andrew Benson's take on second practice and we'll be back tomorrow from 12:30 GMT with build up to final practice and qualifying.

    See you then.

  2. Can we ever compare the F1 greats?

Lewis Hamilton clearly has no intention of slacking off now that he's won the title.

The Briton is now a four times world champion and BBC Radio 5 live commentator Jack Nicholls asks where he ranks among the Formula 1 greats and if they can ever be truly compared.

    Watch the video below.

  3. Final thoughts?

    Tom Clarkson

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

I think Hamilton is looking very strong at the top, also the Red Bull looks good of Daniel Ricciardo - his much more than Max Verstappen's.

Ferrari are a little bit off the pace and I'm also interested in that mid-field battle of Ocon and Massa (with Hulkenberg just behind) will be incredibly close.

Lap times are going to be so important, I think we'll see some blistering times set.

Daniel Eckersley: Is that Verstappen making an Alonso 'GP2 Engine' reference?

  8. Post update

    Erm, what!?

"GP2. Apologies Max," says the Red Bull race engineer to Max Verstappen.

"GP2! GP2!" shouts Verstappen. "Are there two grands prix?

    "Go away," is the reply.

I don't have the first idea what that little exchange was about.

  9. Post update

Into the final five minutes with everyone on the track apart from Stoffel Vandoorne and Marcus Ericsson.

Ericsson hasn't been out since that spin earlier in the session which ended with him touching the tyre wall.

  10. Hamilton 'absolutely blistering'

    Andrew Benson

BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Brazil

Lewis Hamilton, on his first flying lap on the used softs on this race run, has been absolutely blistering.

He has done a 1:12.1 which is more than a second quicker than Valtteri Bottas did on his first lap. Continuing to look like Hamilton domination.

Steve Lank: I was a week old when Mario Andretti in a Ferrari won the South African GP in 1971 at Kylami. Don’t remember much about it though.

I've been looking at race simulation lap times. Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are very evenly matched. Hamilton slightly quicker with 1:13.4, Vettel on average half a tenth behind him and Bottas just over a tenth behind. Ricciardo is a further tenth behind.

  15. Post update

Into the final 25 minutes of this session and teams are moving onto their long runs programme now.

Kimi Raikkonen is back onto softs while Sebastain Vettel remains on supersofts for now.

  16. Post update

There's been more spinning in Brazil than at a market stall specialising in Fidget Spinners.

Romain Grosjean is the latest to go for a twirl. Keeps it out of the barriers, though.
