  1. Thanks and goodbye

Lewis Hamilton has been the star of the season, so it is only fitting that he was wearing a gold crash helmet with the words 'world champion' and four gold stars to represent his four world titles.

Once again he is the man to beat, after setting the fastest time of Friday's practice in Abu Dhabi.

    Lewis Hamilton's racing helmet

But he had a nightmare in qualifying last time out as he crashed out in Q1 in Brazil. What will happen tomorrow? We are back at 09:30 GMT tomorrow with the build-up to the third practice session before qualifying takes place at 13:00 GMT.

Make sure you join us then. So from all the team, thanks for your company and it is bye for now and see you again tomorrow.

Ricciardo's team-mate Max Verstappen was struggling, 0.9secs slower, and behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas.

Force India were best of the rest ahead of Renault's Nico Hulkenberg.

The Ferrari duo are not overly excited by their day's work. Sebastian Vettel tells Sky Sports: "I think it will be close also tomorrow."

While Kimi Raikkonen adds: "It is only Friday, obviously early days. The car could have been better in some places."

  7. Post update

Fernando Alonso is 10th quickest for McLaren as he looks for his third successive points finish in a row on Sunday. Stoffel Vandoorne ends the session two places worse off.

Jennifer Harris: Max Verstappen A- could do better. Likewise Sebastian Vettel. Lewis Hamilton, another A-. Don't want to swell his head any bigger than it is already.

    Tom Clarkson

There is nothing to lose so we might get a ding-dong battle between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel that we have wanted all year.

  12. 'Worst tyre'

Hamilton is quickest, but not too happy with his tyres. "This is definitely the worst tyre I have driven," he said.

  13. BreakingHamilton fastest in second session

An excellent lap set almost an hour ago from Lewis Hamilton leaves him as the fastest in the second session in Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton's time of 1:37.877 set a new track record. Sebastian Vettel is second, Daniel Ricciardo third, Kimi Raikkonen fourth, Valtteri Bottas fifth and Max Verstappen sixth.

Can Felipe Massa end his career with a points finish in his Williams? He has secured a points finish in six of the past eight races. He is 11th quickest today, three places in front of team-mate Lance Stroll.

  16. Post update

Max Verstappen has a wobble and has to go well wide, which makes a hash of that lap. He is still behind his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, who is third. Three different teams in the top three spots. Led by the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton with the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel in second.

  17. Post update

Felipe Massa and Daniel Ricciardo come close to contact. It would not be the best thing for Massa to do in his last ever Formula 1 race. Luckily they are smart enough to avoid each other and both can carry on without any drama.

  18. 'Super shot'

Max Verstappen has been in great form in the last few races, winning twice with a second-placed finish as well in his last five grands prix, and you can see his focus in this great picture as he aims to move up from sixth quickest.

Force India, as they have been for most of the season, are in the 'best of the rest' position at the moment with Sergio Perez in seventh and taking bragging rights over team-mate Esteban Ocon, who is one place further back. Only one hundredth of a second separates them.
