  1. Post update

That's that for day one of the first test.

It was an eventful morning session as Fernando Alonso spun and lost a wheel but the cold and damp weather led to a pretty uneventful afternoon.

Thanks for your company and sensational GIFs. Have a read of Andrew Benson's take on day one here and join my colleague Michael Emons for coverage of day two tomorrow morning at 07:30 GMT.

    See you later!

Euan: Just from first day of testing, looks as the three engine limit rule has actually worked. Day 1 and no engine blowouts? It's unheard of!

Yep, completely behind this GIF's sentiment. That was a very incident free four hours.

  6. Chequered flag

    That's a wrap.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardio finishes quickest on the first day of the first pre-season test.

  7. Post update

And there it is! Daniel Ricciardo rattles off his 100th lap of the day, meaning he will finish with the fastest time and the most laps completed.

    Looking sharp, Christian.

Pottiela: Early days but given so much scrutiny on McLaren and Honda/TR, a decent showing by Renault powered cars is promising for McLaren given they've always been great at chassis dev, just needs to catch up optimising around Renault engine - Honda failed to optimise to McLaren.

  10. Post update

Daniel Ricciardo presumably has the 100 laps mark in his sights. He's back out for the final 10 minutes.

  11. Sauber's day is done

Sauber follow Haas in wrapping things up for the day.

Marcus Ericsson has the 11th quickest time with 1:23.408.

  12. Ricciardo nudges ahead on the lap counter

Daniel Ricciardo has just done a solitary lap on full wets and that nudges Red Bull ahead of Toro Rosso on the lap counter. Ricciardo is on 93 with Brendon Hartley on 92.

Jospeh Tolman-Lopez: No doubt @RenaultSportF1 have the best looking car. Although definitely feel like the halo would look 100 times better if there was a tinted glass/perspex screen between the top and bottom.

  14. Post update

Fernando Alonso persisted with a bit of a splash about on inters but he's back in the pits now.

Forty two laps on the counter, which probably would have been even more but for the not ideal conditions this afternoon.

A decent return after losing a wheel six laps in this morning.

  15. Proper rain

    Chucking it down now.

That may well be it for everyone with half an hour to go until the session officially comes to an end.

  16. Haas done for the day

Haas have confirmed on Twitter that their running for the day is done and dusted.

Romain Grosjean is currently 10th with a time of 1:22.578. He completed 55 laps and didn't once (to my knowledge) whinge about brakes.

    A good day.
