  1. Post update

I get the feeling everyone involved in today's practice sessions wants to rush off to watch the World Cup - so we'll let them go. And you, too.

I hope you'll join me at some point tomorrow. I'll be live for third practice from 10:30 BST, fighting for your attention amid all the other sporting drama taking place.

France lead Uruguay, by the way, so I imagine Pierre Gasly will be feeling pretty chirpy now. Will Lewis Hamilton be feeling the same tomorrow? We'll have it all covered for you across BBC Sport. See you then.

  2. 'I just lost it'

What about Max Verstappen himself? He's had a bit of time to calm down after the frustration of his crash, and has been speaking to Sky Sports.

He says: "I think I wanted to be too quick on the hard tyre and I just lost it. The way you hit the wall you lose the right rear.

"The feeling I had before that was good. I just lost a lot of track time. It's better to drive a lot but I feel good from FP1 with the harder tyres. It feels like we're not fighting for pole, but we'll try again tomorrow."

  3. 'We're staring down the barrel of a third row'

More from Christian Horner about Red Bull's prospects this weekend: "Quali is going to be tough for us. We're staring down the barrel of a third row on the grid here. But we're always better on race day."

  4. 'The damage isn't too bad'

The big story of FP2 was Max Verstappen sliding off and into the wall on his first lap.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is speaking to Sky Sports: "The damage isn't too bad. It's just annoying to lose that amount of track time. It's annoying and frustrating, but we've still got some good data from Daniel Ricciardo's car."

  5. 'I think Ferrari are giving it more'

    Jolyon Palmer

Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

"It's difficult to read. Normally, Ferrari hold something back on a Friday but it seems as if they've changed their tactics. If they're holding something back today, they're going to be miles ahead of the field tomorrow. I think they're giving it a little bit more."

  6. Post update

Interesting that Ferrari have finished quickest in practice - that's not their Friday way at all. What do we make of that?

  7. Post update

The top six finished as they were three posts ago - let's take a look through the midfield, where there wasn't an awful lot to choose between the drivers from sixth-placed Fernando Alonso down to Kevin Magnussen in 12th...

    8) OCO +1.915

  8. Chequered flag - Vettel quickest in P2

  9. Post update

Sebastian Vettel beats the flag with three seconds left to start one final lap - but we're just going through the motions here.

    And here's the proof...

  12. Post update

There's more action in the midfield than at the top of the leaderboard as we move into the final couple of minutes. Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso have been involved in a couple of tasty tussles for position.

Leclerc goes on to the grass briefly as he fights through the field, but no harm done.

FF1M: Re:14:29 all 3 drivers listed were in the best car on the grid when they won those titles. Max is not. Also, MSC used to crash quite regularly in practice as he found the limit.

David Wood: Verstappen going for the Golden Shunt award?

  14. Post update

Into the final 10 minutes. We lost Max Verstappen's Red Bull to a crash on his first lap. Most of the drivers now are on race runs.

    A graphic for Max Verstappen's stats so far this season. Wins: 1 - Podiums: 4 - In-race collisions: 4 - Practice crashes: 2 - Retirements: 2
  15. Britain!

Sebastian Vettel in the foreground here, with as British a backdrop as you can imagine. No, that's not the McLaren in the background.

  16. Post update

On that subject, Lewis Hamilton is going to have to go some to catch the start of England's game against Sweden tomorrow - it is scheduled to start just as final qualifying finishes. Ah well, he'll just have to drive faster.

Marcus Ericsson, who will also have an interest in the England-Sweden match, has a spin at Brooklands, but rights himself and gets back on track.

  17. Post update

By the way, it's really good to see Frank Williams here today. The Williams team founder has been watching from the team garage - he can see Lance Stroll is currently 15th and Sergey Sirotkin 16th.
