  1. That's it for today.

    Race - Sunday 14:10 BST

Mercedes lock-out the front row once again, and some untimely struggles for Sebastian Vettel for grip in the Ferrari - he starts P7 tomorrow.

But the real winners here are McLaren. They managed to get both of their cars into Q3 - their highest place in qualifying since 2016.

Up next is Formula E in Switzerland.

We'll be back at 12:30 BST tomorrow.

    Au revoir.

Josh: Faultless again from Lewis. Machine.

Babatunde: Lewis always delivers when it matters. Excellent concentration from the great champion.

SeriousFace: I don't like this track because it doesn't look like anything. Barcelona is a crab, Spa is a glue gun, Silverstone used to look like Australia etc. Paul Ricard is just a circuit.

  3. Next up: Swiss E-Prix

Frenchman and championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne took pole position earlier today.

You can watch the race on the BBC Red Button and the BBC Sport website & app from 16:30 BST today... (in 35 minutes).

  4. It's been a while for McLaren

The last time a McLaren qualified higher than higher than fifth on the grid was back in 2016 - Jenson Button was third. But it was soaking wet.

Hulkenberg was second for Force India.

You're not going the BELIEVE who was on pole.

    Yeah, get in there Lewis...

Norris posted this on Twitter on Friday - hope he is still counting his chickens as it has paid off.

  6. What's the trick?

    Porridge - check

    Espresso - check

    Beard - check

What is Lewis Hamilton having for breakfast? Maybe that's the trick.

    Bottas
  7. 'Renault saying we have a secret upgrade...'

Lando Norris speaking to Sky Sports: "As a team we have done very well. I am sure they are going to be tough to beat but we are ahead of who we need to be. I have heard rumours from Renault saying we have a secret upgrade. We weren't expecting anything at all to be honest, but it has turned out better than we expected. But tomorrow will be tougher.

"We were very quick in FP1 was was quite worrying, but we managed to continue it throughout the weekend. Canada was the opposite and for some reason the car this year is changing from track to track. We will take the result for today and we will keep working hard."

Emeka: Can someone say, "That's another pole position for @LewisHamilton." Sounds good every time.

Rachel: EIGHTY SIX poles for @LewisHamilton - honestly, let’s take a moment to appreciate that!

Stephen Taylor: I hope for Vettel's he had a glitch with the car otherwise i'm dumfounded how he can be that slow compared to Leclerc

    Hamilton and Bottas
  9. 'I think McLaren have an upgrade...'

Daniel Ricciardo, who starts P8, says: "We got beat by the two McLarens and they have a little update they told no one about, I think. It's impressive their pace and we couldn't match that so I think P8 was the maximum and i'm pretty happy with that.

"I had a few moments i had to abort in Q2, and I was on the mediums which I haven't used all weekend.

"I just heard now I think I have to go and see the stewards from the incident with Kimi."

Shazia: Nice one MCLAREN!!! really hope it converts in the race

Craig: What's the bet vettel finishes above leclerc through team orders or giving leclerc a poor strategy favouring vettel

Paul Knowles: put hamilton in a ferrari and he'd have stuck it on the front row... vettel is an average driver who had 4 good years in an outstanding car

PhilSlocombe: #BBCF1 And that is why Lewis is the GOAT.

  11. Post update

"Looking forward to racing you tomorrow" says Hamilton.

    Hamilton and Leclerc
  12. Giovinazzi out qualified Raikkonen

Giovinazzi says: It's tough he's still a world champion team-mate."

While a disgruntled Kimi said "for sure" he had the pace for Q3 "but when you do mistakes it's very close where we are. We can at least choose the tyres we want so its not too bad."

  13. Stat attack

Fangio has most French Grand Prix poles with five.

Jim Clark and Michael Schumacher both have four.

Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill both on three.

    Hamilton has two...

And there are many who have one.

  14. Finally, some smiles for McLaren

Great results for the McLaren pair today, Lando Norris starts in fifth, and Carlos Sainz sixth. Boss Zak Brown and the pit wall crew were jumping around earlier.
