  1. That's it for today

You can read Andrew Benson's report here.

If you're in Silverstone, good luck getting home with that burst water main clogging up the roads.

We'll be back from 10:30 BST tomorrow for final practice and qualifying.

  2. Kudos to Gasly

Will Davis:Looks like my Dad tapping @PierreGASLY on the shoulder and wishing him good luck this morning worked out well for Pierre.

On the qualification chart Max Verstappen is winning 8-1 against his team-mate Pierre Gasly, and the 'one' is because of a strategic mistake on the team's behalf when the team didn't send Verstappen out for an extra run in Q1, and was knocked down into the drop zone.

Kudos to Gasly, but his time was almost half a second behind Bottas' in second practice (1:26.732 compared to a 1:27.173)... can Gasly he pull out some extra pace into a qualifying lap tomorrow?

  3. The story behind this photo

    From Kayleigh on #bbcf1

Had a lovely 10 mins with a lady here at #Silverstone for the very first time! She told me her husband died two years ago and decided she would attend the Grand Prix as a ‘bucket list’ thing. Looove hearing peoples stories!

  4. 'The Meme Lord'

If you follow him on social media, you'll know that Lando Norris is the king of memes, GIFs, and captions.

This week, BBC Sport gave him a number of photos to caption, and here's what he said.

  5. We love the new side saddle rule

No one told us of this new trend which must have been raised in the drivers' briefing...

    However, we've been here before...

  6. Post update

What's going on with the side-saddle lads?

  7. 'This Friday is one of the worst I've had this year'

For the second time today, Max Verstappen finished behind his team-mate. He says: "Always the Tarmac you have to understand a bit an d its a bit bumpy in places so that's a shame. It was quite windy which isn't easy and we didn't have a good car balance which makes it more difficult.

"I would say this Friday is one of the worst I've had this year, but it's promising that we're still close to Mercedes and Ferrari."

  8. Who impressed today?

Valtteri Bottas was quickest in second practice, but Pierre Gasly's quickest time in FP1 stands out the most, as he's had a disappointing start to the year at Red Bull that's the first time he's finished a session with 'P1' next to his name in his F1 career.

There have been plenty of problems for drivers today: Grosjean crashed in the pitlane and destroyed the front wing, Vettel, Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, and others went off onto the grass, while George Russell, Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo all faced problems with their engines and power units today causing retirements from the sessions.

Alex Thomson: @bbcf1 Nico Hulkenberg is most Bond. Looks superb in a suit.

James Thorne: #bbcf1 Never mind farms, Brooklands had both grazing and a sewage farm on the infield; while at Donington pre-WWII, there was a farm with 5-bar gate that had to be left open to let the cars through...

Jennifer Harris: #bbcf1 3 of the present 4 British drivers (I consider Albon British) will ensure that there is at least 1 Brit on the grid for the next 15ish years. What worries me more is the lack of South American drivers even in the lower formulae.

  11. That’s Rich

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Silverstone

It has been a strange few days for Haas as on Wednesday team sponsor Rich Energy posted a message on Twitter saying their contract with Haas was being cancelled because of the team’s “poor performance”.

“We aim to beat Red Bull and being behind Williams in Austria is unacceptable,” added the statement. But things got even weirder a day later with Rich Energy shareholders say a "rogue" individual was behind the tweet.

Haas boss Guenther Steiner said there was still a contract and, as you can see, the Rich Energy branding is still very much on the car today.

  13. Lights, camera, action...

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Silverstone

Silverstone has gone for an idea straight out of Hollywood, just in case you forget where this race is. This sign will be absolute selfie heaven this weekend.

Will the action on the track this weekend be box office? Who knows, maybe one of the legendary races held here in the past will one day be turned into a Hollywood epic.

  14. Radio - Verstappen

"The left front doesn't look very pretty."

  15. Post update

Leclerc asking on the radio if the tyres are ok, and he's told immediately to box...

Christian Horner said earlier he had seen high tyre degradation and it could be a two-stop race.

  16. Post update

Daniel Ricciardo had eight retirements with a faulty Red Bull last year, and two this year with a new Renault in Australia and Azerbaijan.

He also rides side-saddle as the marshals begin to push his car back to the garage.

We've already seen Kimi Raikkonen do the same thing in FP1 this morning... they could just get off and help push?

  17. Radio - Bottas

    "It's showing like -25."

"Try to follow the cars around" says Bottas' engineer.

Jolyon Palmer translates: "That's VSC delta time, he's been told to follow the cars and judge it. It means he's 25 seconds too quick under the virtual safety car.
