  1. Get Involved

    I love the Masters because...

    Augusta National

Now at this time of year, BBC Sport is inundated with tweets and texts from our audience and they are integral to this live text for the next four days.

To kick us off, we want you to complete this sentence:  "I love #themasters because..."

Include #bbcgolf and we will use the best of them.

I'll get us started: "I love #themasters because even the bunkers look pretty. Sadly, I've never seen such white sand on a UK course."

  2. We're off...

The first tee shots are struck...

The ceremonial tee shot at Augusta

So with a flick of the Gary Player leg as he wills his ball to go further, we are under way at the 2016 Masters.

The crowds are in, the first major of the year is off and running.

    Augusta National
  3. Rickie doesn't miss a trick

    Ceremonial tee shot

Jason Sobel from ESPN has spotted a familiar face in the crowd as Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player get us started...

  4. The three amigos (two this year)

    The ceremonial opening

The ceremonial tee shot at Augusta. A tradition, a nod to wonderful history in a world where tweets, Instagram and social media magnify our present.

    Hogan, Nicklaus, Player

Legends (and that term is fitting here) in Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer line up to get the tournament started but Palmer will not hit a ball in 2016.

"I would love to go on doing it forever, but I don't have the physical capability to hit the shot the way I want to hit it," said the 86-year-old, a seven-time major winner.

A sore shoulder has stopped him this time, though he will be on the first tee. It's over to the other two other greats get us started.

  5. So let's get started...

    Welcome to the Masters

    Tom Watson and Gary Player

But before Tom Watson disappears into the major Championship wilderness, one of his old rivals will join two more legends on the Augusta tee to get us started.

  6. A nightmare to say goodbye to?

    Welcome to the Masters

So what delights will this fragment of Georgia throw up this year?

Sure we may be missing Tiger Woods but golf has a new 'big three' if you will. They are all major champions, all hungry and all in the field.

    Day, McIlroy and Spieth

Then of course there's the 86 men looking to beat them all over four days, a group which includes one legend who will play his final major, having started out here in 1970...

    Tom Watson
  7. A dream we aim to capture...

    Welcome to the Masters

What is it about the Masters? While golf's other three men's majors provide their own dose of history and nostalgia, there is just something special about this place.

    The Masters

Is it the fact it's a constant? Same venue, same time of year, same holes, same sand traps and water hazards. The familiarity of it seems to deliver an endless excitement.

Over the next four days we are going to cover ever detail of that excitement right here. We aim to bring you news of every key stroke, the best interviews, video highlights, images, tweets, texts and a whole lot more.

  8. A dream...

    Welcome to the Masters

Come and take a walk down Magnolia Lane with us...

    Magnolia Lane

On our way through the clubhouse at Augusta National we will meet a few legends...

    Gary Player

What you'll see will look beautiful. It'll be lush and green as far as you can see...

    Augusta

And then there are the champions. They will be waiting for you too...

    Jordan Spieth
