  1. Farewell and thank you

    Stenson

What a cracking four days and as always, the standard just seems to keep evolving. There was a time when a Tiger-free golf was a scenario which prompted uncomfortable questions but this new breed of champion certainly seems to know how to turn it on.

We hope you have enjoyed it once more and as always, thank you for all the tweets and interactions. If you want more, read the report here and don't forget to watch the highlights from an amazing day's play at Royal Troon at 20:00 BST on BBC Two.

From us, that's it for now.

The PGA Championship is just a couple of weeks away so get some rest and come back strong.

We will see you at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey.

For now though, hats off to this man...

  2. 'I felt like it was my time'

    Stenson wins The Open

"It hasn't sunk in yet. When you are fighting as hard as I've done it's just relief when you come off the 18th and know it's done," Stenson tells Sky Sports.

"All those joyful feelings haven't really had time to take place, you don't want to get ahead of yourself.

"I felt like it was my time. You can't guarantee it by any means and I had to play some great golf to get there."

It is your time Henrik, let those feelings start sinking in....

  3. 'I've had a wicked time'

    Johnston -3 (18)

"You want people going home with a smile on their face and I've had such a wicked time," Beef tells Sky Sports.

"I'll take my time with everyone to sign stuff and chat because that's what it's about.

"I've got to keep working hard, keep doing the right things and keep grounded."

  4. A familiar feeling

    Mickelson -17

    Phil Mickelson

If Phil Mickelson - a five-time major winner - had turned these second places into wins, he'd be a more successful golfer than Tiger Woods and close in on the Jack Nicklaus record of 18 majors.

  5. Big money Beef

    Johnston -3, McIlroy -4, Hatton -4

    andrew johnston

A quick look down the leaderboard and we can see Rory McIlroy ended up tied fifth. One of those weeks for Rozza in that he made chances but they didn't quite drop for him. That's four major wins and 10 top-10 finishes by the age of 27.

Andrew 'Beef' Johnston fell away a little to end on three under and in eighth place, that will net him £170,000 - not bad at all.

And hats off to England's Tyrell Hatton who also tied fifth. At 24, he had only made the cut in a major once before.

  6. Classic bunker shot

    henrik stenson

Every year this one is reeled out.

One day, someone will fall in.

  7. Nerves of steel

    Stenson wins The Open

How on earth do you shoot 20 under on a links course?

We saw ruthless scoring, often underpinned by his three wood. The short putts you have to make to tidy things up on times all dropped too. Henrik Stenson has threatened to enter the winner's circle at a golf major before but this week, the package came together quite beautifully.

  8. 'I shot a bogey-free 65 and got beat'

    Mickelson -17 (18)

    Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson has been reacting to getting edged out by Henrik Stenson on the final day at Royal Troon, despite shooting 65.

"I played well enough to win by a number of strokes and got beat. I'm happy with the way I played, but disappointed it wasn't enough," the five-time major winner told reporters.

"I played a bogey-free round and shot 65 in the final round of a major, usually that's good enough to do it. And I got beat."

  10. Not bad work if you can get it

    henrik stenson

It sounds a heck of a lot and is a heck of a lot. But the Ice Man had picked up over £36m before today.

  11. 40 years in the making

All those putts on the carpet as a teenager, all those swings in the mirror, the missed cuts, the fluffed chips, the soul searching, the repetition, the questions, the times where you have no answer.... worth it.

  12. Stunning Stenson

An Open record but not an outright major record...

  13. 'For as long as we live'

    Henrik Stenson

Three-time Open champion Nick Faldo speaking to Radio 5 live: "That was links perfection, we will never see a greater pairing on a final group as long as we live, 65 for Phil and 63 for Henrik.

"That golf was incredible. You don't see a scoreboard like that, where were the rest of the pack? These two guy have lapped them. What a way to win your first major.

"I am sure tonight and tomorrow he will sit down and think I felt what it was like to try and to know what it was like to win a major.

"Mickelson will hurt but at least he didn't lose it, Henrik won this fair and square. For this week both of them were on a different planet."

  15. Stupendous Stenson

If you are just joining us, we will use this graphic again just to underline how good Henrik Stenson was over the last four days. An inspiring watch, he was strength personified.

Asked about Phil Mickelson Stenson says: "It was great, in a small way it makes it easier because you know he's not going to back away. I had to play at my best to get it over the finish line."

  17. What a scrap

Within all this Henrik Stenson love - and he deserves it - we cannot let Phil Mickelson just fade into the background. What he did was just wonderful. A shot back when they teed off he'd have bet heavily that a 65 would have got the job done.

  18. Your new Open champion

  19. Stenson wins The Open

That Henrik Stenson final round is mind bending in isolation but to play this course in four rounds of 68, 65, 68 and 63 is just plain silly.

His key seemed to be finding the green from the fairway, hitting 56 of 72 in regulation. That's more than anyone in the field. Laser-like stuff.
