  2. Whitlock: 'Everyone can be proud of Olympic qualification'

Max Whitlock and the British team are introduced to the crowd ahead of the qualifying round of the men's team event in Stuttgart

Great Britain sealed their place in the men's team event at the Tokyo Olympics by qualifying for the final at the World Championships in Stuttgart.

The team qualified in fifth place, with the top eight reaching the final and top 12 winning a place at Tokyo 2020.

Max Whitlock tops the pommel standings as he aims for a third world title on that apparatus.

"Our main task was qualifying that team for the Olympics," Whitlock told BBC Sport, as he looked ahead to Wednesday's World Championships team final.

"So I think everyone can be really proud," added the Olympic champion, who scored 15.266 on the pommel.

Russia qualified in first place for the final, with China second and Japan third.

  3. GB men’s team

    Joe Fraser

Joe Fraser (20, Birmingham): Won a team silver in last year’s European Championships and missed out on an all-around medal in this year’s event

Dom Cunningham (24, Birmingham): part of the England team that took CWG gold last year, Cunningham was unlucky not to bag a vault medal at last year’s Worlds too.

Max Whitlock (26, Hemel Hempstead): Now an MBE after his 2016 Olympic floor and pommel golds and all-around bronze in 2016’s Rio Olympics, Whitlock is nothing less than British gymnastic royalty.

James Hall (24, Bankstown, Australia): The current British all-around champion, Hall has also won all-around bronze in the Europeans in 2017.

Giarnni Regini-Moran (21, Great Yarmouth): Strong on team and floor as a junior, winning six gold medals, Regini’s rise to the top was interrupted for a year after a training accident left him with snapped knee ligaments and broken leg.

    What is Gymnastics?

Artistic is probably the most well-known form of gymnastics. Women tackle four activities, with men taking on six. These include the vault (run and spring over box), the rings (hoops suspended from the ceiling), the bars (parallel frames to swing between) among others. These activities involve you balancing and performing moves.

Rhythmic involves performing a routine to music whilst waving a ribbon or balancing a hula-hoop round your hands, feet or neck.

Acrobatic is the most energetic of all the types of gymnastics. You perform a routine combined of jumps, lifts or lunges, either in pairs or in a group.

Not sure what style of gymnastics is for you? With 15 different types, all with varying levels of difficulty, there is bound to be one to suit you.

British, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland Gymnastics have tools to help you find the gymnastic activity that suits you.
