England 46-47 Australia

Well, that was quite the spectacle.

Thanks so much for joining us for the Quad Series finale.

The crown goes to the Australians once again, but you get the feeling England are getting that bit closer to snatching it.

Until next time...

Mentor named MVP

England 46-47 Australia

England GK Geva Mentor, who is named MVP at Wembley, on BBC Two: "All credit goes to the girls. I need the girls out there in front of me to make it easier. My job at the back is to be the anchor.

"We were a bit slow off the mark but we knew we had to get ball. We're knackered but we were ready for extra time but it wasn't to be.

"We turned it around from the lousy performance in the week. The Wembley crowd got us over the line. I'm so proud of the team."

'They fought from start to end'

England 46-47 Australia

England netball coach Tracey Neville on BBC Two: I'm so proud of them. I said they had to back each other on court.

"There were some of the critical moments where we could have got ahead but we have to look at positives. They fought from the start to the end. We made them make changes and you have to challenge the coaches as well as the players."

Tracey Neville will be delighted. Fantastic performance by an England team who gave us a performance against South Africa that wasn’t up to standard and lost to the Kiwis.

England have taken Australia as close as they’ve run them for many a year.

Full time

England 46-47 Australia

And breath. That was amazing!

England needed only one goal to take it to extra time but Australia captain Sharni Layton flies in with the all-important interception as the whistle goes.

England 46-47 Australia

Australia are cautioned and England have possession. They have 10 seconds to find two goals!

England 45-47 Australia

We're into the last minute. Australia are working the ball around court and are running the clock down...

England 44-45 Australia

Kadeen Corbin is forced off with an eye injury and replaced by Natalie Haythornthwaite.

And Geva Mentor gets a brilliant interception in the Aussie circle, which is fed down to the Roses attack. Housby lands it!

Two minutes to go and only one goal in it!

England 41-44 Australia

Super shooter Helen Housby turns defender as she intercepts the ball mid-court! Where did she fly in from?!

Kadeen Corbin and Housby are getting plenty of opportunities under the net but aren't putting them away first time, which could be costly against a team like Australia.

Three goals in it. Six minutes left.

England 38-40 Australia

There's a brilliant tete-a-tete going on between England centre Jade Clarke and her opposite number Kim Ravaillion - who square up to each other on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Geva Mentor is told to keep it down by the umpire as she grapples with the Australia attack.

What a battle this is.

England 36-39 Australia

Australia claw their way back in front straight away, with Gretel Tippett and Susan Pettitt combining well at GS and GA.

England haven't been able to score in three centre passes...

Debbie: Have to actually #applaud when our shooters get one over on Sharni Layton! She is such a world class player! #bbcnetball

Jessica: GS/GA is not just physical, it's psychological battle with yourself. Got to keep your head when you've missed a few in a row #bbcnetball

Anita: Amazing 3rd quarter! Edge of your seat stuff. It's so quick! #bbcnetball

Caroline Barker

BBC Sport

England went into this quarter down, they have kept that patience and skill level and made those moments count.

Quarter three

England 36-34 Australia

In seven minutes, England have come from seven behind to lead against the world champions.

What have they got left in their locker for quarter four?

Caz: Pretty poor performance from both teams so far, shooting percentages not where it needs to be at this level #BBCNetball

Jessica: Aussie attacking play is quite simply on point #bbcnetball

Tom#BBCNetball England bringing it back now!! Come on!!

England 32-32 Australia

Huge, huge roars from the Wembley crowd as England turnover Australia's centre and move to within one point of the world number ones.

And now Helen Housby brings them level again!

England 29-32 Australia

Two missed shots by Gretel Tippett for Australia. Can England capitalise?

Yes they can! Kadeen Corbin takes a breath and sinks a cool goal for England.

And now the Roses defence snatch the ball from Diamond hands in the circle and a patient build-up sees Corbin add another. England within three.

England 27-32 Australia

Australia surpass the 30-goal mark but England are working hard around the circle to make their chances count.

The Diamonds defence stand tall, so Helen Housby and Kadeen Corbin are made to duck and dive to get a chance on goal.

Lucia Sdao

Former England international

You don’t get many chances against Australia so you need to capitalise on them. The shooting seems to a deciding factor – the fact that we’ve got opportunities is amazing but we need to put them away now.

England 22-28 Australia

Kadeen Corbin gets the first goal of the second half with an effort from range, before former basketballer Gretel Tippett adds to Australia's score.

Soon enough Tippett gets three more quick goals and England fall further behind. Not the start the Roses would have wanted.

England 21-24 Australia

The players are back out on court.

Australia are the first team to make a change with Gretel Tippett coming on at GA in place of Susan Pettitt.

England 21-24 Australia

So England took that quarter by one goal, which will give them a massive confidence boost going into the second half.

Remember they were 11 goals behind at the same stage against New Zealand on Thursday.

Tom#BBCNetball Fantastic game so far! England CAN do this!

Lauren: Much better start by @England_Netball a competitive half and showing we're capable of beating the aussies here! @BBCSport#BBCNetball

Lucia Sdao

Former England international

Fantastic start to second quarter – a much more patient build-up, there was a bit of a wobble at the start with the shooting but they’ve got to draw confidence from that – a fantastic quarter.

England 21-24 Australia

I don't know about you, but I thought that was thoroughly enjoyable.

England 20-23 Australia

Kim Ravallion, playing at centre for Australia, is cautioned and she concedes the turnover. The look she gave the umpire was nothing less than filthy.

But England can't make the advantage count as they lose possession.

England 19-22 Australia

Susan Pettite holds her nerve and sinks an Australia goal and they extend their lead back to three.

But a lovely one-two from Chelsea Pitman and Kadeen Corbin earn England another point.

Another fantastic attack from the hosts sees Helen Housby add one more, but Australia hit back immediately.

This is breathless stuff.

England 15-16 Australia

Just as England get ahead for the first time in the match, Australia snatch the turnover and score from their own centre to regain the lead.

Lucia Sdao

Former England international

This is a turn around from the New Zealand game – there’s some fire in the bellies!

England 14-14 Australia

Big cheers from the crowd as Kadeen Corbin lands a goal from distance. England needed to get their shooting percentage up in this quarter and it looks like they're growing in confidence.

A fantastic feed from Chelsea Pitman sees Helen Housby bring England to within one, and Corbin adds another to draw them level!

Lucia Sdao

Former England international

Always good to turn over an Australian centre pass!

England 10-13 Australia

We're back under way in the second quarter.

Kadeen Corbin has two chances at goal but both go amiss, and centre Jade Clarke is called up for contact, so possession is with Australia.

But Susan Pettite, the Diamonds GA, also misses under the net after  pressure from Geva Mentor...and England go up the other end and score through Helen Housby!

An important turnover for the hosts.

Four goals are nothing. The positives are there; they came out of the blocks, Australia got in front and they reeled them back in.
