  4. 'He's a great champion'

    Del Potro beats Djokovic

It's always easy to praise an opponent when you've dumped them out of the Olympics but Juan Martin del Potro was full of praise for Novak Djokovic after beating him tonight.

He said: "He’s a great champion, a friend for a long time. I know how important this event was for him. He wanted the gold medal, but I also believe he knows about my effort.

"I talked to him all through my rehab. I’ll always be thankful for his words. We respect each other so much. It was a spectacular match from any point of view."

  5. So happy to be here

    Adrian Moorhouse

1988 Olympic 100m breaststroke champion on BBC One

It's a historical moment for me to be here and watch Adam Peaty win gold 28 years after I won it.

  6. Jazz lights up the night

What a smile. That's what a silver medal means to Jazz Carlin. And she has the 800m freestyle still to come...

    Jazz Carlin
  7. 'Carlin a great example'

    Carlin wins 400m freestyle silver

    Andy Jameson

BBC commentator and former British Olympic swimmer

What a night it has been. It wasn't a surprise that Adam Peaty won - it was more relief and joy that he did it so well - but Jazz Carlin's silver was a bit of surprise. She swam brilliantly. She did the best she could and deserves to be there receiving silver, having produced a lifetime best.

  8. Jazz gets her medal

Silver medalists come in two camps. Those who are made up to take home silverware and those who think they should have had gold.

Jazz Carlin is firmly in the first camp as she is adorned on the podium. Beaming from ear to ear.

    Jazz Carlin
  9. In a league of her own

Love this picture. Look how far Katie Ledecky won the 400m free by. She had time to turn around, take in the scoreboard and start celebrating before Jazz Carlin - in the red cap - even finished in second!

She won by 4.77 seconds. Amazing.

  10. Golden glow

  11. Gotta name 'em all...

  12. 'Phelps deserves gold'

Phelps wins 19th gold of his career

    Adrian Moorhouse

1988 Olympic 100m breaststroke champion on BBC One

Phelps deserves gold for that swim. He's back on form and he's got some individual races where you wouldn't want to bet against him.

  13. Football

    Brazil 0-0 Iraq

    Neymar

It's just like watching... Iraq. Brazil are unable to break down that not-so-great footballing nation.

The host side are still searching for their opening win of the Rio 2016 men's football competition after this embarrassing stalemate.

Led by Barcelona forward Neymar, Brazil could not find a way past their stubborn Group A rivals in Brasilia.

It is their second goalless draw of the tournament after another blank against South Africa on Thursday.

Iraq's players celebrate like they have won the World Cup. And why not.

  14. 'I'm devastated'

    Women's 100m backstroke semi-finals

Georgia Davies after missing out on the backstroke final: "I'm devastated. I wanted to keep the vibe rolling. I thought I had more after the heat this morning but it just wasn't there.

"Day two of an eight-day meet and Adam and Jazz have performed out of this world. The team will be buzzing."

  15. Swimming

    Men's 4x100m freestyle relay

That's 23 Olympic medals for Michael Phelps, his son Boomer looks on. Incredible.

France have the silver, Australia bronze.

  16. Gold Medal - United States

    Men's 4x100m relay

Michael Phelps has his 19th Olympic gold medal!

  17. Swimming

    Men's 4x100m freestyle

It's the US still ahead, France second, Russia third...

  18. Swimming

    Adrian Moorhouse

1988 Olympic 100m breaststroke champion on BBC One

I think we're the only people sitting down. The whole place is on its feet. It's only going to get noisier with Brazil in contention.

  19. Phelps monsters the field

    Men's 4x100m freestyle

Michael Phelps in second for the States, he jumps in in second behind France and ends his leg clearly ahead. He took more than a second out of the field!

    A 47.1 leg...

  20. Swimming

    Adrian Moorhouse

1988 Olympic 100m breaststroke champion on BBC One

Getting someone of Phelps' calibre in second is a great idea to try to get a lead but I think it'll be tight all the through this final.
