  1. Bye for now

    FT: Ireland 29-10 Italy

    Joey Carbery

A solid shake-out for Ireland overall, although it is tricky to read too much into the first of these World Cup warm-ups.

The main point of interest will be medical.

How bad is Joey Carbery's ankle injury? Could Jack Carty fill in as Johnny Sexton's back-up?

Perhaps more questions than answers for Joe Schmidt.

    Bye for now.

  2. Post update

    FT: Ireland 29-10 Italy

Centre Chris Farrell speaking to Channel Four: "There has always been a lot of pressure on this team and it is nice to start with a win.

"It is not the level we want to be playing at going into the World Cup but it is a win and that gives us momentum. We got the first chance to put our hands up for the World Cup but Italy are a tricky side. It took some time but we broke them down eventually."

  3. Post update

    FT: Ireland 29-10 Italy

    Pluses for Joe Schmidt:

    • Centre Chris Farrell
    • Wing Andrew Conway
    • Flanker Tommy O'Donnell

    Minuses:

    • Joey Carbery's ankle knock
  4. Full-time

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

But the rolling maul flops to the deck from the line-out and referee Luke Pearce decides that is enough.

  5. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Last play. Ireland awarded a penalty do the tap and kick to touch to end the game? Or kick to the corner in pursuit of another score?

The latter, to cheers from the crowd.

  6. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Andrew Conway gets a man of the match shout out over the PA. The Ireland wing gives a wry smile down the barrel as he pops up on the big screen.

  7. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Mike Haley's slung pass streaks over the touchline on halfway.

    The game spluttering out now...

  8. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Jordi Murphy coughs up the ball as he takes a short ball flat into the teeth of the Italy defence in an attempt to get across the final two metres.

Is that Ireland's hopes of a cake-icing final try gone?

  9. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Italy throwing caution to the wind and the ball to the wings.

Ian McKinley miss-passes to Edoardo Padovani out wide, but Tadhg Beirne, off the bench and into the fray, steals a turnover.

Jack Carty rifles a kick down to the Italy 22m to turn the screw.

  10. Post update

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

There is a lot of lactic and a little less quality on the pitch right now as the players feel the burn in this first match of their season.

Cian Healy tags in to relieve Andrew Porter in the Ireland front row.

  11. No try

    Ireland 29-10 Italy

Full marks for innovation, less for the execution.

Italy work a clever line-out routine, dummying the lift and then taking a short one and charging over from short range.

But the ball did not travel five metres on the throw-in rules the referee. Spoilsport.

  12. Try - Ireland 29-10 Italy

    Kieran Marmion

    Charge down!

The Italy screen in front of kicker Ian McKinley is full of holes.

Ireland flood through and scrum-half Kieran Marmion gets the charge down and has all the time in the world to gather a bobbler and dive over.

Jack Carty's conversion ricochets off both uprights and bounces....out.

  13. A worrying sight

    Michael Morrow

BBC Sport NI at the Aviva Stadium

Joey Carbery heading off on the medical cart was a very worrying sight for Ireland.

So important to Joe Schmidt's plan is Carbery that the IRFU forced the fly-half to leave Leinster so that he would be playing regularly at 10 thus preparing him for big minutes at the World Cup.

    We await the doctor's assessment.

  14. Replacement

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

Mike Haley - once of Sale, now of Munster - is on in place of Andrew Conway, who has had an excellent showing, confident in the air and sniffed out a try as well.

  15. Post update

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

Good work from Andrew Conway and Tommy O'Donnell as the wing chases up his own kick and snares catcher Carlo Canna and the flanker limpets over the top to force the turnover.

  16. Post update

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

That was smart heads-up rugby from Jack Carty, spotting an under-staffed Italy backfield and pinning the visitors back with a raking cross-field touch-finder.

Fresh legs off Ireland bench. Iain Henderson and Kieran Marmion on for Devin Toner and Luke McGrath.

  17. Post update

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

That was nice from Carlo Canna. The Italy back dribbles a kick though for himself to chase, fly hacks on and is only just beaten to the in-goal buzzer push by a flying Jordan Larmour.

  18. Post update

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

Jack Carty's first kick is a hurried one after the Italy rush defence gets in his face.

Italy have been pushed back to the Ireland 10m.

Sebastian Negri is on in place of Alessandro Negri in the second-row engine room.

  19. Replacements

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

Jack Carty has come on in the wake of Joey Carbery's injury-enforced departure.

Italy have subbed off number eight Jimmy Tuivaiti for Marco Lazzaroni.

  20. Carbery off injured

    Ireland 24-10 Italy

Italy are knocking on the door, five metres short.

There is an injury concern for Ireland here.

Fly-half Joey Carbery, who has been excellent so far, is going to take the cart off the pitch after hurting his ankle.

That will be a medical bulletin to look for after the match. He looks pretty concerned about the state of his injury.
