  2. More Scots joy

    Just a quick word for two other Scots fighting on the undercard tonight.

    Reece McFadden won on points against Georgi Georgiev, improving to 3-0. McFadden won bronze at both the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

    And Lee McGregor beat Brett Fidoe beat on points over six rounds. McGregor, who is now 6-0, and will defend his Commonwealth bantamweight title on June 22 in Glasgow against Scott Allan.

    Josh Taylor defeats Ivan Baranchyk by unanimous decision

    Super-middleweight George Groves, who has seen Josh Taylor at close hand in the gym, believes Taylor is going to get better and better.

    He says: "He's the poster boy of Scottish boxing right now.

    "I've seen his rise in popularity and he's a real force, he's someone to get behind.

    "I believe he's going to win the tournament and go on to be the unified champion for Scotland."

    Josh Taylor wins by unanimous decision

    Josh Taylor had Ivan Baranchyk on the floor twice in the sixth round, and he says afterwards: "If I had more time in that round it would have been game over.

    "I took my foot off the gas and just boxed him."

    His opponent in the Super-series final will be Regis Prograis, an unbeaten American of 24 fights from New Orleans, who joins Taylor in the ring.

    "I think I'm the best and I'll beat him comfortably," says Taylor. "But he will believe the same."

    Josh Taylor sings Flower of Scotland to the crowd, who respond by belting it out.

    He tells Sky Sports: "It's a dream come true, I'm over the moon.

    "I took more risks than I should have, switched off more than I should, took more punches than I should."

    Josh Taylor is the new IBF world super-lightweight champion with a unanimous decision, taking the decision on all three judges scorecards.

    He also reaches the final of the world super series.

    After 12 rounds the crowd in here holds it’s breath. Has Taylor done enough? They think so and so does Taylor’s corner, but the referee will decide....

    Baranchyk has blood trickling down his right eye and its Taylor finishing strong.

    The last 10 seconds of the fight the two stand in the centre of the ring and exchange. It's a terrific end, but as the bell goes Shane McGuigan rushes in and lifts his man high into the air. His corner feel he's won the title.

    Taylor lands a good right, Baranchyk replies by swinging but doesn't catch Taylor clean.

    The Scot bounces around the perimeter of the ring and incites Baranchyk to come for him, which is a dangerous game to play because he does and gets Taylor where he wants him in the corner where he begins to unload.

    And I think he may have hurt Taylor...

    Into the final round we go. Taylor surely ahead on the scorecards, helped by those two knockdowns in round six.

    This is a good round. Both are throwing. Baranchyk has found a second wind, Taylor is happy to engage with him in the middle of the ring.

    Taylor walks back to his corner with his arm raised feeling he won it.

    A bit of a slip from Taylor after a decent right cross from Baranchyk, who lets not forget is the defending champion and unbeaten.

    Baranchyk steps forward with a big right but Taylor is cute enough to slip away. But then Baranchyk gets Taylor against the corner and hammers some big punches in.

    It's not over yet.

    Round 10

    Taylor is landing a lot now, with both hands. Baranchyk is still lively but the referee is having a close look.

    Baranchyk you feel is a relieved man to hear the bell.

    Taylor is surely comfortable on the scorecards, but you get the impression another knockdown is close. The concern on Baranchyk's trainer Freddie Roach's face says it all.

    Taylor starts the 10th round well, Baranchyk leaves himself open and Taylor cracks a left to the temple.

    Then he loads up with a good combination as Baranchyk is caught standing still.

    Baranchyk is beginning to look very tired in there, and he still has two and a half rounds to go.

    Baranchyk to his credit doesn't look a beaten man. He maybe even edged that round with the busier work.

    Round nine

    Shane McGuigan urges Josh Taylor to "go downstairs" in round nine. He's been having success with the body shots and it's slowing Baranchyk down.

    Taylor responds with an early left to the body.

    Baranchyk attempts two powerful upper cuts but both hit the gloves of Taylor.

    He's thrown plenty tonight but despite an early cut he hasn't rocked the home favourite.
