The sprinklers shower water over a dusky Centre Court, which means it's time to sweep up and clock out. It's been another comfortable day for Andy Murray and Roger Federer, while Novak Djokovic's Wimbledon future is in the balance.

The women will take centre stage tomorrow, of course. Well, sort of. Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson will be sharing the limelight somewhat. Thanks, as always for joining us. More of the same tomorrow?

Court One order of play

Those heading for Court One tomorrow have received a Willy Wonka-style golden ticket as Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson will resume their tussle. Could the defending champion be knocked out?

Whether he does or doesn't, Garbine Muguruza and Timea Bacsinszky will follow his match, with Madison Keys and Agnieska Radwanska bringing women's quarter-finals day to an end.

Tuesday's order of play

Maria Sharapova and Coco Vandeweghe kick off the day on Centre Court and will be followed by Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. That could be tasty.

Djokovic and Anderson pack up and leave, or Anderson disappears while Djokovic adds his signature to all sorts of merchandise. Who would get your vote in a one-set shoot-out? The big serving Anderson or the defending champion with infinite reserves of willpower?

Boos echo around Court One. "Play some more," they scream - but the umpire tells the rowdy spectators that play will be suspended until Tuesday because of the fading light. More hissing. It's turning into a pantomime.

The net on Centre Court is being removed, which means there certainly be no play on the Big Daddy of courts this evening. Spectators chanting on Court One, their cries muffling into one so it's difficult to know who they're cheering. Two set points Djokovic and he seals it with a brilliant forehand winner. The defending champion is back in business.

Boris Becker decked in a red tracksuit top and cream sweatpants, looking like a member of a Roger Federer fan club. Reports filtering through that they won't be moving this match to Centre Court, which means the final set will probably be played on Court One tomorrow, but we're still waiting for official confirmation. A hold to 15 for Anderson.

"Djokovic has had his hands full. Kevin is a good grass-court player, and a good server. Conditions are slowing which will help Novak.

"I was getting asked after the draw 'you've got to beat Tsonga, Rafa Nadal and then Roger Federer and then Novak'. I don't know why people do that. No one can predict every result in a Slam."

Djokovic sees his ill-timed backhand return trickle over the net and he raises his racquet in acknowledgement of his good fortune. It's the only point he collects from the Anderson serve, however. That early blip from the South African in this set could prove to be very costly.

Much chat about whether this match will be transferred to Centre Court. The net is still up on Centre, officials are still on court and there's a crowd gathering, but no official confirmation. Play continuing on Court One for now, however. Anderson holding to love, but perhaps it's a little too late in this set.

The Murray family are celebrating a quarter-final double tonight. After world number three Andy cruised into the last eight of the singles, his older brother Jamie moved into the same stage of the men's doubles.

Murray and his Australian playing partner John Peers earned a five-set win over defending champions Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock in three hours and 19 minutes.

Court One groans, and understandably so, as Anderson messes up a serve and volley when the court was at his mercy. 15-15. Djokovic unable to dominate as he did in the third set, but he does earn a break point, which Anderson saves with a serve and volley. Djokovic shakes his head. How did I let that one go? Boris Becker looks on intensely. Second break point Djokovic... Anderson forced to reach to his toes, and that's too low down.

Djokovic has flicked a switch, engines roaring and is preparing for liftoff. He takes little time to comprehensively outclass Anderson in the third set. Twenty-four minutes, in fact, and there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Djokovic breaks

Anderson needing to dig deep if he is to win this in three sets. Djokovic, though, with feline speed around the court, a crosscourt backhand winner on the opening point. The Anderson serve, his lethal weapon, faltering, as is his forehand. Three break points to the defending champion.

Anderson chalks one off. but Djokovic works his way around the court magnificently on the next point, ending with a cool backhand volley.

"I'd love someone to ask Djokovic in the press conference after the match if he was tired or if he's carrying an injury. I've never seen him as flat."

Job done. Now Anderson needs a break of Djokovic's serve. Not a chance. The Serb, eyes focused on the bare baseline as he bounces his ball, nails his first serve at 40-15, leaving Anderson struggling to control his wayward return.

"I cannot afford to lose serve here. I cannot afford to lose serve here." That's what Kevin Anderson will be telling himself as he strides back out with ball in hand. Probably.

The 14th seed does not lose his serve, calmly sending a forehand winner at 40-30 scurrying down the line.

The last time the top seed was knocked out in the fourth round was back in 2001, when Pete Sampras - the four-time defending champion - lost to a 19-year-old Roger Federer.

A hush around Court One right now - even Djoko breaking did not bring much of a reaction from the crowd - but you just know there is more drama to come. It's getting a bit chilly in the stands as the last of the sunshine disappears but on court the heat is still on the defending champion.

Move along quickly, little to see here. Djokovic polices his serve well, forcing Anderson into forehand errors in a routine hold to love.

And Anderson's serve buckles at the first opportunity in the third set. Djokovic skulks into a break-point avenue, somehow sticking his strings on a mammoth Anderson serve, the South African overcooking the forehand return.

Can Anderson maintain this standard for another set? If he doesn't then the odds of him winning, one would imagine, would lengthen as the match goes on. Djokovic holds to heap the pressure back on to Anderson...

Third set point Anderson. Djokovic with serve, though, so he has a say in his own destiny. Anderson attacking... at the net... super backhand volley and Djokovic is down, down, down.

Anderson tosses the ball, slams his racquet onto it like a hammer hitting a nail, but it goes well wide. Second goes in, a long rally, a big forehand leaves Djokovic scrambling, he finds the net. Back to the Serb....

Anderson, the weight of the world probably on his shoulders. Well, the weight of a JCB truck, or something at least. His response? Ace. Down the middle.

Can Djokovic stop the rot? Not at first. Three serves skim the net before he finally finds his target. Anderson tees up a pair of smashes....Novak takes the second.

Another mini-break would do a grand job for Anderson right now. No dice. After a brief rally, the South African goes long. Too long.

First serve into the tape. Second serve? A touch too long. Djokovic challenges but he doesn't get his way.

Novak nods in appreciation. He fancies his chances now. Anderson serve...he hits the target at the first attempt...Djokovic palms one into the tape.

Boris Becker, scarlet tracksuit top, is on his feet. Djokovic smiling to his mentor. Anderson to serve... the South African messes up a slam dunk and this is a procession.

Novak serves, rally enschews, Anderson goes on the front foot. He scampers to the net - but his forehand volley crumbles into the net.

First blow Djokovic and the Serb follows up with a forehand so accurate Anderson nets.

Djokovic pauses before this crucial set-saving serve, takes a deep breath - and wins the point. He sees off another set point - tie-break time!

"Ooooh!" goes the Court One crowd. And everyone else watching. Djokovic has gone long with a forehand from the baseline. Set point for Anderson....

"Come on, Roger," cries a gentleman on Centre Court as the Swiss engineers a match point. The second seeds needs no words of encouragement from the crowd to boost him, although Agut fends him off. But for how long? Federer glides to the tape, a swish of the racquet and Agut is undone by a delicate volley. Second match point... saved Agut. Third match point... saved Agut. Fourth match point... saved Agut.

On and on we go. The crowd anxious. Crackerjack of a Federer forehand eases Centre Court nerves. Deuce. Federer has had his prey in sight for quite some time and finally, finally, he kills him off, Agut netting.

Coach Boris Becker looks pensive as he leans forward in the Djokovic box. The Serb and his team are rattled for the first time in this Wimbledon.

Anderson, the 14th seed remember, never looks in danger as he crashes out another hold. And that means Djokovic is serving to stay in the set...

Kevin Anderson guzzles down a energy-boosting gel at the changeover, replenishing his dwindling stock of carbohydrates and electrolytes, but it does little good in the next game as Djokovic races into a 40-0 lead.

A lazy backhand into the net gives the South African hope, but he misses the target with his next return and - after a hopeful challenge - Djokovic adds another one on to his side of the scoreboard.

That first set was the first that Djokovic has dropped at Wimbledon since he won last year's final (vs Federer). He has not dropped two sets in the same match since last year's quarter-final (vs Cilic) and has not gone two sets down since losing the 2013 final to Murray. We will see Lleyton Hewitt no more at SW19, not in his Wimbledon whites at least, because the Australian and his partner Casey Dellacqua have lost their mixed doubles match. The pair fell 0-6 6-3 6-3 to ninth seeds Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Cara Black.

I'm sure Peter Fleming will be proved right. But Djokovic isn't showing any signs of slowing down just yet. The Serb hammers down serve after serve to hold in double quick time. That Anderson momentum? Sneaked off out of Court One.

Anderson whittles away a 40-15 lead, a double fault allowing Djokovic back in at deuce. Then the South African crumbles. He lets a return go, only for technology to inform us that it dusted the baseline, then clubs a forehand well wide. Turning point?

Djokovic loses serve

Oh my word. What is going on? Kevin Anderson snatches a couple of break points early in the second set...one goes begging but not the second! A rip-roaring forehand return of serve leaves the Serb scrambling, allowing the South African to move into the net and volley the winner. Court One stunned.

Djokovic is not enjoying himself out on Court One this fine London evening. The Serb is rocking, furiously swatting at a vicious Anderson serve which almost knocks him backwards like a skittle at your local bowling lane. Some powerful forehand strokes - after a second serve of 120mph - puts the South African within a point of the game, only for Djokovic to force deuce. But Anderson ramps up the mph again, serving out the game with another ace.

Game and second set

Life just gets easier and easier for Roger Federer. The seven-time champion secures the second set, again a 6-2 procession. Agut receiving treatment on his foot during the changeover.

The opening stages of the second set following the same pattern as the first - Djokovic hold, Anderson hold. Little opportunities for either man to wrestle an early advantage from the other's grasp.

They reach a crescendo when Djoko double-faults at 6-6 and if this place had a roof it would have come off when Anderson banged down an ace to take the first set.

Roberto Bautista Agut is looking to become the eighth Spaniard to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals - he had better look again. Next year. He is already facing an uphill task today, Federer looking in imperious form, breaking again to move within a hold of the serve.

Quite a few empty green seats can be seen dotted around Centre Court. That is no way to treat tennis royalty. But Roger Federer, trying to stick his mitts on an eighth Wimbledon title remember, is only focused on the green court - asking questions of Bautista Agut's backhand that the Spaniard can't answer in an easy hold.

Jamie and his partner John Peers deserve some recognition too, actually - they have recovered from a break down to win a second set tie-break.

Wow. Novak Djokovic, targeting his 25th straight Grand Slam quarter-final, rattles off the opening game with a barely a minute on the clock. That was almost quicker than a bolt of lightning.

"Also, when you are playing Karlovic you have to adapt quickly because the serve is coming from such a great height and then it is bouncing up on the hard ground but Murray has the skills and dexterity to adapt to that.

"To play Pospisil in the quarter-finals is a fantastic draw. Andy will respect him but I expect him to win that one as well."

You might have read about Nick Kyrgios's sock issues earlier today but I'm pleased to report that Andy Murray's older brother Jamie is not having any similar problems on court 12.

Jamie and his Australian partner John Peers are a set up, and serving to stay in the second, against reigning Wimbledon doubles champions Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil in their third-round match.

Three hours on court, but Murray's work is nearly done. At 15-15, the pair face off at the net, yet there's no fireworks, gentle volleys at acute angles until Murray comes up with a winning volley. There seems little danger of the Scot being broken from here - and he isn't. Karlovic goes long on match point - and the crowd roars.

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka is the third man to stick his name in the quarter-final draw. The Swiss fourth seed manoeuvres himself into position A, two match points in the third set, lacing a lovely forehand winner past Belgium's David Goffin to wrap it up in straight sets.

Next up for Stan? France's 21st seed Richard Gasquet. Wawrinka is going about his business quietly, but effectively, in SW19. He hasn't dropped a set yet...

An octogenarian in one row is acting like an excitable Labrador. Another canny return from Murray... Karlovic, at the tape, flat of foot, slow of thought, and he tamely nets. 30-40. Break point Murray.

Karlovic with a inswinging volley. The Croat thinks it has kissed the line, Murray otherwise - and replays show it was out by the width of a butterfly's wing.

Murray wins the set! Nope, not that Murray. Andy's older brother Jamie, and his doubles partner John Peers, are leading against last year's champions Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock.

Pospisil is back on court 12 after spending over two-and-a-half hours there earlier when he beat Viktor Troicki in the last 16 of the singles.

The Canadian is virtually living there. He'll be asked to start paying council tax soon.

There isn't even enough time to chew on a two-day old biscuit before Murray sees off Karlovic. A backhand winner and an ace the highlight of a trouble-free hold.

The Karlovic serve so good it is worthy of being displayed in a national gallery, but Murray has the skill to make the Croat look like a lumbering ogre - but can Murray pass and pass and pass again the 6ft 11in frame at the net, which is what he must do to break the 36-year-old.

One glance at the world rankings would have left you scrambling to back a straight-sets victory for ninth seed Marin Cilic.

But no! American wildcard Denis Kudla, ranked down at 105, halts the Croatian's charge by winning the second set to level in his first Grand Slam last-16 match.

"Being a 36-year-old in the second week of Wimbledon, you might think that fatigue and fitness would come into it for Karlovic. But the points are so short with him due to the nature of his game, he doesn't look tired at all. You might think he is feeling it but I don't think he is. Sunglasses, please, I've just glanced at Lee Westwood's Barbie pink tie. Murray keeping the points short, conserving energy - but the Scot sighs as he watches a Karlovic winner whizz by his ears. 40-30. The Briton going through one of his dips, another error and we're at deuce.

The spectators do their best to galvanise their man, and once the din dies - coincidences or not - Murray conjures an ace. A perfect lob follows, and one lady is standing in ovation, directing her applause at the Scot.

Another Karlovic howitzer fizzes off the turf and Murray glances towards his box, but there's nothing Mauresmo and co can do, unless they're allowed to join him on the baseline, which they aren't. They definitely aren't. At 30-30 Centre Court wonders whether Murray will pounce - but he messes up when the court opens up and Karlovic serves out.

Murray usually fares well against the fast men and his movement is impeccable so there's no need to worry yet - plus the Scot is serving with a surgeon's precision. It looks as vicious as candyfloss compared with Karlovic's cannons - but it's effective nonetheless.

Almost a carbon copy of the opener as Swiss fourth seed Stan Wawrinka outmuscles Belgium's David Goffin in the second-set tie-break.

Wawrinka, aiming to become only the sixth French Open champion to win Wimbledon in the same year, is now just another set away from the last eight.

France's Richard Gasquet, a semi-finalist here in 2007, awaits the winner.

But the 26-year-old levels at 30-30, thunderous forehands nicely doing the job. Oops. Murray breaks a string in his racquet on an iffy first serve, he changes his weapon... silence on Centre... Murray in trouble, though. Backhand into the tape. Set point Karlovic.

And Murray balloons a forehand into the tramlines. Sharp intake of breath from some spectators, Murray smashes his racquet during the changeover. What a surprise.

Home fans rejoice. Katie Swan, the Bristol-born 16-year-old, battles back from a set down to reach the second round of the girls' singles.

The fifth seed wins 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 against Australia's Seone Mendez.

Murray aiming the ball at Karlovic's toes, trying to get the Croat to uncomfortably reach low. But even though Karlovic occasionally falters, his serve is such a powerful tool that he gets out of trouble with ease.
