Why was Gasquet changing the strapping in his racquet during every break towards the end? "I'm sweating a lot but also maybe it's a bit of superstition.
And what does he think about facing Novak Djokovic: "It will be tough but I'm happy with how I've played today and I'll try to play my best again against the best player in the world."
It was a great battle - Gasquet
More from Gasquet: "It was tough and I made some mistakes. He had big confidence after Paris and I had to fight. I really wanted to win. It's a great feeling as it's a big match.
"It came down to mental strength. I was aggressive and it was a great battle."

One break point slips through the fingers. Gasquet looks to the skies in search of inspiration. Wawrinka steps forwards and can take his time to pat a volley beyond his opponent. Two match points saved. What about the third, though, Stan? Backhand long! Gasquet's knees buckle underneath him and he falls to the floor.

One man will falter, he will stutter close to the finishing line. The bookies would put their money on Gasquet, he of no Grand Slams and just the two major semi-finals.
The Frenchman with a tired backhand beyond the baseline. 30-30. Could this be it? Wawrinka with a stonking backhand passer. He raises the single digit. Break point.
But Gasquet conjures a boomer to the wings, Wawrinka netting the return. To deuce. We'll see you at 19:51 ish.

It was back in 1815 that we first started updating the scores on this match. Who could have guessed that, 200 years later, they'd be still playing the deciding set, thrilling with wordly backhands and delightful net play. The umpire requests calm, but that's like trying to contain lighting in a bottle. Gasquet shanks a return - a hold to love for Wawrinka.
"That was lucky Stan's shot hit Gasquet on the frame of his racquet. That would have broken a rib it was hit so hard."

It's getting nasty out there. Wawrinka with a body blow of a forehand, catching Gasquet on the side of the ribs. The Swiss raises his arm to apologise, then chuckles like a Bond villain. (He doesn't chuckle. Or stroke a white cat.) The Swiss still trailing, though, and fails to make up the arrears, botching backhands to present Gasquet with a simple hold.
"When players have been on court for so long, it stops you thinking so much and you end up playing a little bit better."

A Mexican Wave is started on Court One. The spectators giddy on a belly full of tennis. But, please, there's only so much entertainment a person can take. Stop it now or we will self combust. A shot of intent, a rasping ace down the middle. A sharp intake of breath from the impressed spectators. But from the sublime to the silly - a double fault, his fourth of the match. 15-15. The Frenchman upping the ante on his first serve, which helps him skip merrily ahead as if he were dancing through a meadow hand-in-hand with his lover.

Three hours have now gone by since this match started. We expected a simple, fuss-free Wawrinka victory but Gasquet has other ideas. This match will end. But who knows when. We've reached the stage where it's best to start watching through the lattice of our fingers. Wawrinka wants to challenge a Gasquet forehand - which was out - but the Swiss played it and left it too late. The Swiss throws daggers with his eyes towards the umpire. In the meantime, Gasquet romps to 40-0, ending with a magical crosscourt backhand winner.

There are no superlatives to describe the Wawrinka backhand when it's at its piercing best. Picture-perfect, pitch-perfect winner for a 0-30 lead. There's life in Gasquet, though, a smash followed by a irretrievable volley. 30-30. How much more of this can we take? Stan, Stan, Stan... backhand slapped into the net, then backhand into the tramlines. Wawrinka pointing to his head. The demons are playing up.

Of the two, Wawrinka is the man who is more accustomed to five-set thrillers in crunch stages of Grand Slams.
The fourth seed punches the air after taking a delightful opening point, he's beginning to feel at home on this stage again. Oh. Scrap that. Wawrinka botches a simple backhand volley. 30-15.
But Gasquet allows him to breathe easier, backhand drifting long. 40-15 - before Wawrinka holds to 30 thanks to a delicate volley at the tape. We're level. We're excited.

Where's that backhand when you need it? Wawrinka remaining patient, pinning Gasquet back, bullying the Frenchman and Gasquet loops a backhand down the tramlines. Gasquet was two points from victory, but its all ifs, buts and maybes.

I think he wrote off that game halfway through, backing himself to save energy and get the job done on his own tee-off.
Let's find out if that was canny or complacent...

Talking of Goran, here is the man himself in the player's box.
There looks like there has been a bit of sculpting of that beard since his own SW19 glory days - heavy at the front, tapering to the sideboards - all very tight and tidy.
Much like Novak Djokovic's game. The defending champion move on to within a game of the first set.

Blood in the water. Cilic finds himself 0-30 down and two points away from a break that he won't get back from.
But goodness me, those are delicate dainty hands, the sort to make Kate's in the Royal Box look like she has spent a career pot-washing.
Two delicious drop volleys help him back to 40-30 and earn a little smatter of applause from Djokovic. Djoko into the net and the Croat keeps his cards on the table in the opener.

Novak Djokovic is chiselling and chipping his way towards the finishline in this first set.
Nothing particularly flashy, just relentless percentage tennis, playing with dead-eyed accuracy and a healthy margin to absorb any errors.

Novak Djokovic offers Marin Cilic a large slice of open court on his own forehand side, daring him to try and make the pass.
Cilic takes up the challenge and passes with flying colours, lassoing the ball up, down, over and in as Djokovic can only stand and admire.
The Royal Box is looking a little sparse by the way. David and Romeo Beckham in the cheap(er) seats have been in position from the start though. Sport-watching Trojans the pair of them.

When Wimbledon arrives each summer, tennis captivates the nation for two weeks.
But that's not the full story - Brits of all ages are switched on all year round, with nearly a million swishing their racquets once a month.
And that is exactly what Novak Djokovic does. And in some style.
He rattles through four points at double quick speed, sealing the game with an ace.

Right, the tale of the tape.
It is a one-sided 12-0 in favour of Novak Djokovic in the head to head.

"Impressive performance from Murray, he looked very sharp and his game looks in full working order. The movement, which is key for him, looked strong. Murray will be in a very happy place as got through that match without too much stress.

Camilla received one of Murray's stinky sweatbands in the first week, but today it's a chance for the masses to fight over the Scot's discarded prize.
"This is Murray's best performance in the tournament as Pospisil is an all-round player. The match was played at a very high level and Murray will be happy with a straight-set win and this will help him hone his concentration.
"Roger Federer is a different league altogether but this was a good stepping stone towards that match. I'd pick Murray as the favourite."
"Murray doesn't need to do anything different; he is serving well, returning well, being patient from the baseline and moving his opponents around. At this level, it is whoever plays the big moments well, grabs the opportunities. It'll be a tough match, but Murray has the edge."

Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 5-5 Gasquet*
Of the two, Wawrinka is the man who is more accustomed to five-set thrillers in crunch stages of Grand Slams.
The fourth seed punches the air after taking a delightful opening point, he's beginning to feel at home on this stage again. Oh. Scrap that. Wawrinka botches a simple backhand volley. 30-15.
But Gasquet allows him to breathe easier, backhand drifting long. 40-15 - before Wawrinka holds to 30 thanks to a delicate volley at the tape. We're level. We're excited.
Wawrinka breaks back
*Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 4-5 Gasquet
Where's that backhand when you need it? Wawrinka remaining patient, pinning Gasquet back, bullying the Frenchman and Gasquet loops a backhand down the tramlines. Gasquet was two points from victory, but its all ifs, buts and maybes.
Break point Wawrinka
*Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-5 Gasquet
Gasquet hasn't progressed to a Wimbledon semi-final since 2007. No-one thought he would in 2015. They sniffed and snorted at the thought. He's not there yet, however, dragging a backhand wide for 30-30... anxiety grips players and spectators. Beautiful at the net, to and fro... and Gasquet misses with a volley! Break back point Wawrinka.

Wawrinka talking to himself now, which is never a good sign, but super-duper first serves erase two break points. But Gasquet still has one left. The Frenchman's eyes widen when he realises he can reach a Wawrinka forehand - and the French Open champion is broken with a crisp forehand winner down the line. Blimey. Gasquet to serve for the match. Yes, you read it right.
Three break points Gasquet
Wawrinka 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-6 3-4 Gasquet*
Gasquet pacing behind the baseline, trying to keep calm, trying to stop the blood pumping, but all he does is make himself look like Norman Wisdom. No laughing matter for Wawrinka, though, let's the opening two points slip - and fails to control a volley at the net. Three break points Gasquet.

More from Andy Murray: "I have loved playing here over the years. I have always played some of my best tennis here. I hope I can get to another final but it will be a tough one.
"I enjoy the two weeks of Wimbledon. On the court it is stressful but when I look back, I enjoy that. Great support. I know Roger very well, we walked to the practice courts together this morning. Friday is a different story and hopefully we can have a great match."

Andy Murray on BBC One after reaching the semi-finals: "I felt I played some good stuff. He served extremely well for periods, I tried to change my return position at the end of the second for myself to see the returns better. It was difficult stopping a couple of times and coming out under the roof."

The Royal Box is now empty, although someone has left a brown handbag on a seat in the second row. Hopefully they're reading this. You can never be too careful. But enough of that because Andy Murray has something to say...

"I think I'll go with Stan (in the match against Richard Gasquet) with the confidence that he is riding on. Gasquet can hit the ball well but the power of Wawrinka is immense. He also has the willingness to come forward."

Jean-Paul Gautier? Asterix? David Ginola?
None are quite as quintessentially French as Richard Gasquet.
The 29-year-old is flinging that showboaty one-handed backhand around on Court One. But Stan Wawrinka can batter it beautifully off that wing as well.
Some of these baseline exchanges need to be pickled and put in a museum for posterity.
No breaks of serve as yet.
Murray into semi-finals
A sixth Wimbledon semi-final for Andy Murray - and a 150th Grand Slam match-win. How many Grand Slam semi-finals has the Scot now reached? Just the 17. Sweet 17.

Say it once, say it twice, say it over and over again: Andy Murray versus Roger Federer in Friday's semi-final. The Duke of Cambridge and Bear Grylls are licking their lips at the prospect.

"Sometimes you lose sight, with the other giants of the game, of how mentally strong Murray is and how well he deals with the pressure and adversity.
"Pospisil did everything he could to enjoy it but you never felt the outcome was in doubt."

Game, set and match Murray
Murray 6-4 7-5 6-4 Pospisil
Murray steps in from the baseline, goes on the attack... Pospisil with no chance. The British number one is through to the Wimbledon semi-final and the delighted spectators give him a standing ovation.
Second match point

Murray pinning his rival onto the back of the baseline and he fails to negotiate the barrier. Second match point Murray.
Pospisil saves match point
Murray 6-4 7-5 5-4 Pospisil*
Momentum-changing forehand from Pospisil, Murray at full stretch near the tramlines, his backhand has no oomph and the Canadian has oodles of time to pat away a forehand winner. Deuce.

Pospil goes long after a lengthy baseline exchange. Match point Murray.

What's happened here? Murray's forehand faltering. First break point of the match to Pospisil. But the Scot arrows a return to the wings and we're at deuce.

Murray with acres of grass to aim at - but he balloons a forehand into the tape. Pospisil reducing the arrears and dragging himself to 30-30 by forcing the Scot onto the back foot.

Majority of Centre Court perched forward on the edge of their sets. First serve iffy. Second serve in, Pospisil screws a backhand long. First blow to Murray. 15-0.
Murray breaks
*Murray 6-4 7-5 5-4 Pospisil
A looping backhand into the tramlines and Pospisil, head bowed, shoulder slumped, is up against it at 0-30. The first serve is taken off him for time wasting and Centre Court hisses and boos. The Canadian's second serve is enough to outfox Murray, who angrily slaps the racquet of his strings.
The Briton wants to end this match, but can he? Break point. Possibly. "Come on, Andy" the spectators sing. Cheeky Pospisil, through the legs, but that won't beat Murray who now serves for the match.

"I would say if they play 10 times here in this situation at Wimbledon, I would say Wawrinka would win six of the 10.
"But I think Gasquet has a great shot of pulling off an upset, unless Stan brings the A game.
"If he does, he's the better overall player."
Next on Court One...
Wawrinka v Gasquet
After seeing his compatriot Gilles Simon swabbed across the Court One floor by the Swiss number one Roger Federer, Richard Gasquet has to try and see if he can do any better against Swiss number two Stan Wawrinka.
Australian Open champion Wawrinka is yet to drop a set.
Gasquet is bidding to make the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time since 2007.

Pospisil butchers a backhand. 15-30 - time for Murray to turn the screw? Another rapid return puts the Canadian under pressure and he nets - two break points Murray. The Briton allows one to slip through his fingers. What about the next? They grind it out at the baseline until Pospisil forces the game to deuce with a peachy volley. Gutsy.

At the summit of Murray Mound, there is a grassy area of peace and tranquility - the sort of retreat where you can drift off and wake up thinking you're in Kew Gardens.
But today people are strategically stood - behind the view-obstructing, hydrangea-lined water feature - ducking and squinting to see the big screen on the side of Court One.
A few worn-out middle-aged men are catching the zeds - although even the huge cheer which greeted Murray's set-winning point doesn't stir them.

"Simon was solid in Queen's but was out of sorts today and was out-served by Roger Federer. Even the longer rallies went in Federer's favour.
"Simon never got his teeth into the match; it was a very flat performance from him. Perhaps he got a bit overwhelmed by the great serve of Roger Federer.
"Simon is basically a baseline player but he has shown in the tournament that he can come forward. Today he barely got out of baseline towards the net."

Roger Federer tells BBC Sport: "The stop and goes with the weather are tough but I think I used them to my advantage. The breaks helped rather than hindered me.
"Simon was a quality return player and the game I got broken he was too good.
And on the prospect of facing Andy Murray next: "We both like to look back on that summer of 2012. If we knew I would win Wimbledon and him Olympics, I think we both would have taken it. It was a great summer for us.
"I am happy for him, he is doing so well after back injury. People forget how hard it is to get back. It will be a tough one for me but I am obviously looking forward to it."
