    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 Goffin

David Goffin speaking on court: "It was a tough fight until the end. Rafa is one of the strongest players mentally on the tour.

"I am so happy to finally find the key to win this match. It is so special to do it here.

"I don't know how I picked myself up after losing the four match points. I had no regrets and I just wanted to keep going and try to enjoy every point.

"I am really proud to be the first Belgian to be here. I see the Belgian flags in the crowd and it is so nice to be here."

    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 Goffin

Rafael Nadal gets a standing ovation as he heads off down the players' tunnel. He's walking very awkwardly. He's still got another two matches to come in the round-robin stage but will he make it?

We'll have to wait and see.

    Miles Maclagan

Former British Davis Cup player on Radio 5 live sports extra

That's a huge win for Goffin. Thrilling match despite some of the tennis being abject. It kept us on the edge of our seats.

  6. Game, set and match

    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 Goffin

    Sewn up!

David Goffin serves an ace and earns the biggest win of his career against the world number one.

    *Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 4-5 Goffin

After a shaky start, David Goffin pulls out a mid-air backhand winner to make it 15-15.

Two overpowering serves bring up two more match points. Surely he's got this sewn up now?

  8. Post update

    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 4-5 Goffin*

What do you do when your knee is a bit crocked? Come into the net and get your volley out.

Nadal's close-range technique gives him a 30-0 lead, and he holds with a punching forehand.

Goffin to serve for the match.

  9. Post update

    *Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 3-5 Goffin

Deep breaths from David, as Rafael Nadal slaps the ball into the net and hands Goffin the hold.

Nadal can barely walk right now and he's a game away from losing this match.

  10. Post update

    Miles Maclagan

Former British Davis Cup player on Radio 5 live sports extra

A little turn to his box and a fist bump from Nadal as if to say I know I am still in this.

  11. Post update

    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 3-4 Goffin*

The pace has slowed massively, but Rafael Nadal is able to grind out another service game when Goffin flicks the ball just wide of the lines.

Are we on the home straight yet? It's hard to know.

    Russell Fuller

BBC tennis correspondent on Radio 5 live sports extra

Beating these all-time great players that have been stalking the men's game for years is a huge mental barrier for players like Goffin.

  13. Post update

    Miles Maclagan

Former British Davis Cup player on Radio 5 live sports extra

Would you believe it? Nadal still so dangerous, that fighting flame cannot be extinguished.

  14. Nadal breaks back

    *Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 2-4 Goffin

Rafael Nadal is pretty much playing on one good leg, but he still manages to pull of some magnificent shots. His latest effort is powerful and deep into the corner, and completely outsmarts Goffin.

We're poised at deuce, and then Nadal earns a break back point by scampering up to the net and slamming down.

Goffin hits long and Nadal takes the game! Madness.

John McEnerney: When the going gets tough Rafa gets going. How many times have we seen the man from Manacor pull it out of the bag when he looked down and out? Heart of not just a lion but a pride of lions. As my dad used to say “Mother of sweet lanterin Jaysus this lad is some player"

  16. Goffin breaks again

    Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 1-4 Goffin*

Nadal's under the cosh again, as Goffin brings up two more break points.

The world number one watches the Belgian's return go past the baseline for 30-40.

But then the Spaniard shanks wide and Goffin earns a double break.

  17. Post update

    Russell Fuller

BBC tennis correspondent on Radio 5 live sports extra

We have seen a second and a third wind from Nadal. He needs a fourth wind now.

  18. Post update

    *Nadal 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 1-3 Goffin

Goffin comes through another service game with a clean bill of health, but the same can't be said for Rafa Nadal, who's hobbling like a granny.

  19. Post update

    Miles Maclagan

Former British Davis Cup player on Radio 5 live sports extra

What resistance from Goffin combined with a few unforced errors from Nadal.

Both players have fought so hard here, it is one of those matches where you don't want one of the players to go home a loser.
