And with that, it's time for us to wrap up our live text coverage.

Don't forget, you can catch the highlights of all Sunday's action from the Australian Open on BBC Two from 18:00 GMT.

There'll be plenty from this cracker, as well as wins for Kyle Edmund and Rafael Nadal and the best of the rest from the last 16.

On to the second week we go, as the quarter-finals await.

Until then...

Edmund up next for Dimitrov

So it is Grigor Dimitrov who will face British number two Kyle Edmund in the Australian Open quarter-final.

Any insight into how the Bulgarian will shape up against the 23-year-old from Yorkshire?

Not so much...

"I played him two weeks ago," said Dimitrov. "It's just another match. I am focused on my side of the court."

'We are moving forward'

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) Kyrgios

So what's it like playing someone as unpredictable as Nick Kyrgios?

"You always have to be alert, what can you do? I just tried to block the ball," added Dimitrov.

"Step by step we are moving forward, match by match we are building up."

'I am just glad to get through'

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) Kyrgios

Grigor Dimitrov

Here's third seed Grigor Dimitrov after his win over Nick Kyrgios: "Playing against Nick is always tricky, two weeks ago I lost against him.

"He was serving unbelievably, playing unbelievably. He fought really hard and it's one of those matches you have to take any opportunity you have.

"Even serving for the match I felt it wasn't over. I am just glad to get through that match."

What a match!

Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

We saw everything in that match. It was amazing to watch and great sportsmanship from the players at the end.

Kyrgios played shots that aren't in the textbook but credit to Dimitrov to come through that. Incredible mental fortitude.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) Kyrgios

Well, take a moment to catch you breath...

What a fantastic array of shots on show from both players, some sublime serving and near meltdowns from Nick Kyrgios.

Grigor Dimitrov just had a word at the net with him at the end there.

Game, set and match Dimitrov

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) Kyrgios

Kyrgios saves the first, but what a passing forehand from Dimitrov that is!

He beats Kyrgios at the net, and takes the match!

Grigor Dimitrov

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios*

Magnificent from Dimitrov, backpedaling and curling a forehand winner just inside the baseline.

Kyrgios tries to go over his man on the next point, but Dimitrov volleys a winner at the net.

Three match points.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios

Wonderful hands from Kyrgios, but Dimitrov's defence is equally admirable.

The Bulgarian can't stop the home favourite's looping forehand into the corner, though.

But that's missed. Dimitrov sprints side to side to keep the ball alive, and Kyrgios hits the net.

Dimitrov leads 4-3.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios*

Kyrgios finds the net from a punchy Dimitrov serve, and then goes long with a backhand on the next point.

3-2 Dimitrov.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios

Well, well, well.

Nick Kyrgios, leaning back, winding up a forehand and slamming it into the space left by Grigor Dimitrov.

He goes 2-1 up.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios*

Fast and furious from Grigor Dimitrov - that's 1-0 off the serve.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-6 Kyrgios

Straight into the body of Grigor Dimitrov. That's feisty from Nick Kyrgios, like a fast bowler peppering a batsman.

The Australian takes it to 40-0, and nails a 36th ace - unbelievable.

We go to a tie-break.

Nick Kyrgios

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-5 Kyrgios*

It's easy to get drawn into Kyrgios' antics, both marvelous and mind-boggling, and forget about Dimitrov - but the Bulgarian is playing some fantastic tennis.

He thunders through his service game to love.

Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

This could be one of the great stories if Kyrgios comes back from two sets down to win this match.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 5-5 Kyrgios

Now it's Nick Kyrgios serving to stay in the tournament.

Grigor Dimitrov drifts a return long, and Kyrgios roars it out of the back of the court.

He follows up with a massive forehand winner, then an ace and finally a wonderful crosscourt backhand.

Kyrgios holds.

Kyrgios breaks back

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 5-4 Kyrgios*

Nick Kyrgios is telling someone in the crowd to shut up. Rod Laver Arena falls eerily silent.

The Australian hits a superb backhand winner down the line.

He breaks back!

Nick Kyrgios

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 5-3 Kyrgios

"Let's go Nicko," is the chant...

And Dimitrov double faults. Two break points Kyrgios.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 5-3 Kyrgios

Grigor Dimitrov goes 15-0 up, but slices long. He dinks another backhand slice deep towards the baseline, but this time Kyrgios gets the better of the rally - 15-30.

Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Absolutely astonished by that miss. Kyrgios is the most relaxed guy with the fastest arm and somehow he put it into the net.

But there were no lost causes from Dimitrov and he worked so hard to make him play another shot.

Dimitrov breaks

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 5-3 Kyrgios

Kyrgios is teetering. Both in this game and in terms of temperament.

Grigor Dimitrov slices a forehand winner to earn another break point - and there's another outpouring of expletives from the Australian.

Nightmare! Kyrgios, off perhaps the easiest point of the match, slams a volley from midcourt into the net. Dimitrov breaks.

Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

That was the most conservative serve Kyrgios has hit this match but all credit to Dimitrov because he went on the offensive and got in charge of the rally to create break point.

But then Kyrgios hits his 34th ace and it's back to square one for Dimitrov who just walked over to the other side of the court to face the next one.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 4-3 Kyrgios*

Magnificent from Grigor Dimitrov.

He fires a forehand across court with more spin than a general election and Nick Kyrgios can't deal with it.

Break point.... saved, with another huge ace.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 4-3 Kyrgios*

An ace to follow a double fault? No problem for Nick Kyrgios.

Grigor Dimitrov challenges, but that's kissed the line.

The Australian goes long with his next shot, though, and there's a few choice words to follow.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 4-3 Kyrgios*

Brilliant from Nick Kyrgios, working his opponent around the court before lunging forward to take the volley on his backhand side and slicing it into the space vacated by Grigor Dimitrov.

He follows up with a double fault - and then blames someone in the crowd for coughing.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 4-3 Kyrgios*

We've reached the three-hour mark. Three enthralling hours it must be said.

Nick Kyrgios hammers in his 31st ace of the match, but can then only top a straightforward forehand into the roots of the net.

Dimitrov challenges what could be another ace. But it's in. Postage stamp stuff.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 4-3 Kyrgios*

Neat from Grigor Dimitrov.

Pushing Nick Kyrgios left, and then right before darting to the net to hammer a volley home.

Dimitrov cruises to 40-0, and the Australian then goes long.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 3-3 Kyrgios

Dimitrov has his head in his hands again, this time after a loose forehand that drifts wide.

Kyrgios attacks with a punishing forehand of his own and Dimitrov can only stick his response in the tramlines.

An ace to finish. That's 3-3.

Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

This is a great match. Everyone was looking forward to it and it's living up to expectations.

Nick Kyrgios

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 3-2 Kyrgios*

That's a massive second serve from Nick Kyrgios.

Grigor Dimitrov shakes his head in frustration. Or disbelief?

David Law

Radio 5 live sports extra commentator at Melbourne Park

Everyone is catching their breath and taking the chance to stretch their legs because there could be another two hours of this classic.

Dimitrov holds

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 3-2 Kyrgios*

Big serve at a big time for Grigor Dimitrov. He needed that.

Another follows, rattling the racquet of Nick Kyrgios and dropping to the blue floor in front of him.

Wonderful from the third seed. A superbly taken forehand winner to turn this game back in his favour.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-2 Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios whacks the top of the net with a thunderous forehand, but it trickles agonisingly down on to his own side.

Grigor Dimitrov miscues and that's deuce, before Kyrgios hits a running forehand with outrageous speed to earn a break point chance.

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-2 Kyrgios

Well, it's like musical chairs in the Kyrgios box at the minute - up, down, jostling around.

More importantly, on the court, it's Dimitrov who coaxes a smart forehand winner beyond the Australian, only to watch his attempt at a slapping forehand pass catch the frame.

Kyrgios holds

*Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-2 Kyrgios

Unbelievable, I think Kyrgios has just been screaming at his box to stand up?

They obey... but he pops a sloppy backhand long with a straight racquet and we're at deuce again.

Two big points, two ferocious strokes as the 17th seed takes a huge hold.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-1 Kyrgios*

Nick Kyrgios

We're back at deuce.

The Australian looked to be in control of the rally, but he slips a forehand long.

Dimitrov's hands reverberate from the speed of the Kyrgios serve, and the ball flops off his strings into the net.

But that's a third deuce. Kyrgios just can't close this one out.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-1 Kyrgios*

Kyrgios whacks a ball into the crowd, and it's a great catch from one spectator!

He then saves one break point by slamming down an ace, before nailing his 28th of the match to bring it back to deuce.

Dimitrov loops a loose backhand slice wide. "Let's go," screams Kyrgios.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-1 Kyrgios*

Double fault from Nick Kyrgios.

Two break points Grigor Dimitrov.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-1 Kyrgios*

If you missed it earlier, Kyle Edmund awaits the winner of this one in the quarter-finals...

It's like one big party at Rod Laver Arena at the minute, music blaring out between points. How do you find your concentration amid that?

Kyrgios goes long, while Dimitrov looks completely unfazed. He has to scramble back around a Kyrgios shot that was going one way, hits the net, and drifts the other.

But Dimitrov works the return and the Australian is off target - 15-30.

Dimitrov 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 2-1 Kyrgios*

We're whistling through the first few services games of the fourth set.

Power upon power, ferocious serve upon ferocious serve - that ball has taken some battering.

Dimitrov takes it.
