  1. What’s coming up on day two?

Two more medals are available in today’s alpine skiing programme, with the men’s and women’s combined slalom competitions taking place this morning.

There will also be medals on offer in the men’s and women’s individual biathlon, with competitors navigating a 10km (for women) or 12.5km (for men) ski course whilst also making use of their rifle-shooting skills. Shawna Pendry is expected to compete for Great Britain.

In addition the bobsleigh, skeleton and luge training runs get underway, while there is further action from the figure skating, curling and ice hockey.

  2. 2030 Winter Olympics could be shared

Three candidates are bidding for the 2030 Winter Olympics, two of them former hosts, according to Octavian Morariu, head of the IOC's evaluation commission.

The Spanish city of Barcelona - the 1992 summer Games host - is the new candidate, joining former hosts Sapporo (Japan, 1972) and Salt Lake City (USA, 2002). Barcelona’s bid will pair up with the Pyrennean principality of Andorra, which will host the skiing events.

That might also involve siting the ski jumping events in Sarajevo, the 1984 host, because Andorra has no jump facilities. The IOC rules for co-hosting have recently changed and this would allow cross-country bids for future Games. No date has been set for the vote on the 2030 hosts.

After Beijing hosts the 2022 Winter Games, the 2026 Winter Olympics will be co-hosted by Milan and the Italian mountain resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
