Elsewhere in the world of winter sports, Britain's Bradley Hall and Greg Cackett have claimed a historic first World Cup two-man bobsleigh medal.

The duo won silver behind Germany's Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis, who have dominated this season.

Hall said: "It's an absolutely incredible feeling. If you told us last week that we were going to finish in the top six two weeks in a row, let alone fourth and second, we wouldn't have believed you.

"These last two weeks have been really tough - me and Greg have been feeling under the weather - but we managed to pull out two consistent runs and to be stood on the podium with a silver medal around our necks is really, really special."

  2. What's coming up on day 10

    A ski jumper

The sliders make their competitive bow at the Games today, with the women’s mono bobsleigh and skeleton competitions taking place at the St Moritz Olympia run.

Ski jumping should also provide some thrills and spills at Les Tuffes Nordic Centre as both the men and women take part in the individual events.

Expect the unexpected at Villars Winter Park, where the men’s and women’s ski cross medals will be decided. It’s always one of the most exciting spectacles as riders hurl themselves down a tight course full of jumps and turns following a mass start. Crashes and collisions are the rule rather than the exception.

Slopestyle promises an equal measure of big air and terrifying tumbles. Competitors in the men’s freeski and women’s snowboard slopestyle events at Leysin Park & Pipe will be scored on the height, originality and quality of their jumps and tricks on a specially-built obstacle course.

Finally, the men’s and women sprint free medals are also up for grabs in the cross-country skiing.
