Plymouth Devils sign American champion Ricky Wells

Wells will join up with the Plymouth Devils squad next week

Plymouth Devils have signed 30-year-old American rider Ricky Wells as they try to boost their faltering season.

The Devils are bottom of the Premier League, having won just three matches all season.

New Zealand-born Wells, who races under an American licence, will join the Devils next week and is set to make his debut at Redcar on Thursday 21 July.

Wells rides for Wolverhampton in the Elite League and rode for Stoke in the Premier League last season.

Wells won the USA under-21 championship in 2007 and 2008 and became American Champion in 2009.
