Championship leader Marc Marquez will start on pole position ahead of title rival Jorge Lorenzo for Sunday's decisive Valencia Grand Prix.
The Repsol Honda rider, who could become the first man since Kenny Roberts in 1978 to win the championship in his rookie season, beat Lorenzo by half a second, with Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa starting third.
Marquez needs to finish in the top four on Sunday to take the title, while Lorenzo must win and hope Marquez can not manage that to retain his title.
