Spanish MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa has signed a new contract with the Repsol Honda team that lasts until the end of 2016.

The 28-year-old is currently third in the championship behind leader Marc Marquez but level on points with second-placed Valentino Rossi.

He has been with Honda since his debut in Grand Prix racing in 2001.

"It's the best way for me to continue my career, together with the company I was with in my first race," he said.

Pedrosa won the 125cc title in 2003 and the 250cc crown in 2004 and 2005 before making his MotoGP debut in 2006.

He has been runner-up in the championship three times, most recently in 2012.
