Devon's Harry Tincknell narrowly missed out on securing any points on the first weekend of the Formula Three season.
The 19-year-old qualified in eighth at Monza in Italy, but technical problems hampered his start and he finished down the field in 11th.
Race two saw Tincknell cross the line in 11th again, before dropping down to 16 by the end of race three.
"Overall I'm positive," he said. "we showed improvement from testing, and the weekend has been excellent."
He added: "The team has the pace to compete at the front, and during the last four laps of the final race I was quicker than the leaders.
"When we go to Oulton Park for the next meeting I'm confident that I can get a result."
The British Formula Three International Series returns at Oulton Park, Cheshire, on 23-25 April.
