Ford says Poole Pirates have coped well with their injury crisis this season

Poole Pirates promoter Matt Ford believes his side can recover from their recent injury crisis and prosper in the Elite League this season.

Pirates are currently without Jason Doyle, 25, with a dislocated shoulder while Darcy Ward, 18, and Davey Watt, 33, returned from injury last month.

"We just need to have all our riders gelling at the same time and we'll do some damage," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I'm hopeful that if we get over these injuries we'll have a good season."

Doyle injured his shoulder when competing for Premier League side Rye House on Monday, while Ward was sidelined with a broken wrist and shoulder and Watt was missing with an ankle problem.

However despite their injuries Poole sit third in the league, and Ford says he is pleased with how his side have coped with a depleted squad this season.

"We haven't had our full squad out but I think we're holding in there OK, even though we've had these injuries we're still picking up points," he said.

"We're positioned in third place with meetings in hand and I think that as long as we continue in the vein of form that we're in, we'll be in with a shout at the end."
