Formula Renault UK driver Alice Powell sees failure to finish at Thruxton last weekend as a big set back in her bid for a podium finish this season.

Powell, 18, crashed out in both of her two races in Andover to slip 10th in the Championship table.

"It's quite disappointing. It's a big step back in terms of my position in the Championship," she told BBC Oxford.

"But it's still early days and anything can happen. I just need a bit of luck really for the rest of the season."

Powell next travels to Oulton Park in June for the fourth race meeting of the season, and she insists confidence is still high despite her recent results.

"I will still be as confident as I was at Thruxton, the crashes weren't my fault as I was just driven into," said the Oxford-based driver.

"So when we go to Oulton Park I am sure we can hopefully move on and get more good results.

"I really want to get back in the car now and be racing because I'm really looking forward to it, but I've got to contain my excitement for the next four weeks."
