Leicester Lions hope to conclude a deal for a replacement for Ilya Bondarenko in time for Saturday's meeting with Glasgow Tigers in the Knock-Out Cup.
Promoter David Hemsley has completed negotiations with a rider and hope to announce the signing later this week.
A Lions side missing shoulder injury victim Bondarenko were beaten 52-41 by Redcar at Beaumont Park on Sunday.
Leicester struggled against experienced opposition and never looked like recovering from a slow start.
