Ipswich Witches have received positive news on Morten Risager after a successful operation to save one of his little fingers.
The Dane suffered the injury during a fall in last Tuesday's defeat by Rye House Rockets.
"It looks like the finger will stay in place, he's got three weeks before the wires come out," director of speedway Chris Louis told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"It looks like he'll be out for a minimum of six, maybe eight weeks."
Louis added the club would be looking for a short-term replacement to cover Risager, rather than use a series of guest riders.
He also confirmed the Witches take precedent for rider Chris Schramm who has joined Swindon in a doubling-up role.
Ipswich are in action Thursday night when they host Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Knock-Out Cup.
