John Laverty has suffered multiple injuries in a high speed crash during the first free practice session for the British Superbike round at Oulton Park.

Laverty has sustained a broken pelvis, two broken ankles, a fractured right knee, broken ribs, two dislocated shoulders and fluid in his lungs.

The Buildbase BMW rider from Toomebridge is recovering in the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Alastair Seeley was third in the first Supersport race of the weekend.

Laverty lies 24th in the British Superbike series with just six points this season.

He crashed on the start-finish straight and the session was immediately red-flagged.
