Eugene Laverty says he is 'optimistic' that he can secure a move to ride in the MotoGP series in 2012.
The 25-year-old Toomebridge rider held talks with the Tech 3 Yamaha team at last weekend's Czech Republic round of the championship at Brno.
"The talks went well and I'm hopeful but all I can do now is wait. I should know more by the time of the next MotoGP round in a few weeks' time.
"I have a good relationship with the team manager too," said Laverty.
Laverty, one of three racing brothers, has twice finished runner-up in the World Supersport series and currently lies fourth in the World Superbike championship.
He was rocked by Yamaha's recent decision to withdraw from World Superbikes next season, leaving him and team-mate Marco Melandri without a ride for 2012.
In May, Laverty secured his first World Superbike victories when he won both races at the Italian round in Monza.
