Plymouth are off the bottom of the Premier League after a last heat decider saw them beat Rye House 46-44 at St Boniface Arena.
Ricky Wells and Ben Barker scored a 5-1 win in the last heat to secure Plymouth's fifth win of the season.
"It was a tremendous psychological boost to get off bottom place in the table," said promoter Mike Bowden.
But his side could not repeat the feat in the weekend's other match as they lost 52-20 at Berwick.
