Ex-Cheetahs rider David Howe believes British speedway still misses Oxford.

The defunct club, who finished second in a three-team tournament at Swindon on Thursday night, have been out of action since 2007.

"For the league itself it would be good to have such a big club back and for Oxford as a community," Howe told BBC Radio Oxford.

"(Oxford) are a club steeped in history and they're still fondly remembered in the world of speedway."

Swindon Robins rider Scott Nicholls, who was declared an Oxford rider for the night, agreed with Howe's sentiments.

"It's always a shame when you lose a track especially one with a great history like Oxford," said Nicholls.

"It would be nice to see Oxford back but time will tell if that happens or not."

Oxford were narrowly beaten by winners Exeter who ended up with 35 points to Oxford's 32 as Swindon came third on 20.
