Oxfordshire racing driver Alice Powell says she is determined to seize her opportunity to impress when she takes part in a supporting race at the Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix later this month.

The 18-year-old from Chipping Norton normally races in the UK's Formula Renault Championship.

Powell has struggled for funding this year and may not finish the season.

"The MRS series is supporting an F1 race so there will be a lot of interest," Powell told BBC Oxford.

Powell believes a large crowd at the Greater Noida track and big media presence is a chance to put herself in the spotlight in her one-off appearance in the MRS series.

The MRS series event will happen before the main F1 race on 30 October.

"There will be a lot of important people there so we need to get the right result and hope we get noticed," added Powell.

"I'm looking forward to it. Obviously it is going to be very exciting when I am there so I need to keep a lot of my focus on the racing."
