Herefordshire's Chaz Davies says being offered a two-year deal was the key to him
The 26-year-old from Presteigne, who represents Wales, ended fifth in the 2013 campaign riding for BMW Motorrad.
It was his second World Superbikes season having joined Aprilia in 2012.
"Two years makes such a difference as every bike's unique and only after a season riding it can you capitalise on everything you have learnt," he said.
This summer, Davies was forced to find a new team as BMW withdrew from World Superbikes.
He previously rode for Ducati in his sole MotoGP season in 2007 but only managed three starts as he was primarily used as a test rider.
"It's huge security knowing I'm in the same saddle for a while as for eight or nine years I've switched bikes every season," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.
"When it all got signed it was a weight off my mind but I was pretty confident as I'd been talking with Ducati as far back as the Turkey race in August."
