World champion Marc Marquez has claimed pole for Sunday's British MotoGP at Silverstone.
The Spaniard has won 10 of the 11 races so far this season and continued his domination with the fastest qualifying time of 2mins 0.829secs.
The 21-year-old Honda rider was 0.336 quicker than second-placed Andrea Dovizioso on a Ducati with Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo 0.035secs further back.
Bradley Smith (Yamaha) was the quickest Briton and is seventh on the grid.
Championship leader Marquez secured his 10th pole position out of 12 this season, following the disappointment of seeing his bid for a record 11th successive win ended with fourth place in the Czech Republic on 17 August.
Marquez, whose brother Alex races in Moto3 and whose father Julian was watching the pair from the pit lane, said he had been cautious after a crash in morning practice.
"I was a bit careful after the crash, even though I landed on the grass," he said.
"I am happy with the bike and the rhythm was fine today. We are hoping for a good day tomorrow with some good weather and we will try to fight for victory."
|Marc Marquez (Spa) Repsol Honda||263 points|
|Dani Pedrosa (Spa) Repsol Honda||186 points|
|Valentino Rossi (Ita) Yamaha||173 points|
|Jorge Lorenzo (Spa) Yamaha||137 points|
|Andrea Dovizioso (Ita) Ducati||118 points|
Marquez holds a 77-point lead over team-mate Dani Pedrosa who beat him in Brno last time out but struggled to fifth in qualifying at Silverstone.
Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi remains a crowd favourite but the Yamaha rider's hopes of winning his first British GP since Donington in 2005 are slim after he qualified sixth.
Britain's Cal Crutchlow was 15th, continuing a poor season since moving to Ducati last winter.
There was better news for fellow-Briton Scott Redding on his Gresini Honda. He qualified 11th at the circuit where he won the Moto2 race last year.
France's Johann Zarco, riding for Caterham Suter, is on pole in Moto2, while Spain's Alex Rins topped qualifying in Moto3 on his Honda.
