Birmingham Brummies reserve rider Zach Wajtknecht has put his impressive performances down to his how well-suited the team is to him.

Wajtknecht, 17, scored 16+1 points in Wednesday' victory over Buxton, sending them top of the National League table.

"I am enjoying it here at Birmingham, it seems to be the perfect place for me," Wajtknecht told BBC WM 95.6.

"All the team are all gelling together well and we all seem to improve with every meeting."

Wajtknecht's show against Buxton came off the back of his 18+1 points total against Kent in their 53-40 victory over Kent on Monday, in which he won the Bronze Helmet.

"I was surprised with how many I scored at Kent because it was my first time there but we're top of the table and doing well," he said.

"To win the Bronze Helmet at Kent and retain it tonight, it has been good. We've got a few things to improve on and we have got the fours next weekend."

Team manager Graham Drury played down their position at the summit of the table, following their sixth victory of the season so far.

"I think that scoreline flatters us somewhat. We got a little bit stronger towards the end but full credit to the opposition, they came along, they put on a tremendous show.

"In the National League, there's a few incidents here or there but I would like to think that the public certainly get value for money."
