Bessie Manu has become Team Bath's first ever overseas signing

Team Bath have named New Zealand defender Bessie Manu in their squad for the 2015 Superleague season.

The 28-year-old has been signed from ANZ Championship franchise Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and becomes Bath's first overseas player.

Also joining the five-time title winners are Wales centre Kyra Jones and Scotland captain Claire Brownie.

Head coach Jess Thirlby has yet to finalise her shooting circle, with six players fighting for five places.

Rosie Allison, Rachel Shaw, Shaunagh Craig, Lauren Dent, Ellie Gibbons and Asha Francis, the latter returning from the birth of her first child, are all in contention.

Final 15-player squad to be submitted by 15 December

Defender Sam Cook is back in the squad after a season out injured and has also been recalled by England for the tri-series against Malawi.

However, Bath no longer have England duo Pamela Cookey and Serena Guthrie in their ranks after moves to Surrey Storm and New Zealand's Northern Mystics respectively.

Thirlby has until 15 December to submit her final 15 players for the Bath squad.

She said: "It will be a tough challenge this year as nearly every franchise, like us, is trying to move on and think outside the box.

"There have been more overseas signings than ever before, but we are confident that this is an exciting line-up and we will be a side to watch."

Bath finished third in the Superleague last season behind Tracey Neville's Manchester Thunder, who won the title for a second time.
