Tyrone midfielder Colm Cavanagh is set to miss the opening stages of the National Football League after suffering broken ribs.

The Moy clubman was stretchered off after clashing with Derry's Barry McGoldrick in Saturday night's McKenna Cup final victory in Armagh.

Cavanagh was also injured in an earlier incident which resulted in James Conway being sent-off.

Tyrone open their Division Two campaign against Kildare next Saturday.

Derry midfielder Conway was given a straight red card after the 18th minute challenge, which left Cavanagh requiring treatment.

The Red Hands went on to win the decider 1-14 to 2-8 at the Athletic Grounds.
