Monaghan's Vinny Corey tackles Paddy Gilsenan at Navan

Meath punished Monaghan's wastefulness by taking a deserved win in Saturday's NFL Division 2 clash at Navan.

Two Stephen Bray points helped Meath lead 0-4 to 0-3 before James Turley's goal edged Monaghan two ahead.

Meath regrouped to lead 0-10 to 1-6 at the interval with Paddy Gilsenan among the home side's scorers.

The Royal hit three unanswered scores after half-time and Shane McInerney's goal put the result beyond doubt even though Gilsenan was sent-off late on.

Monaghan competed well for most of the match but any chance of victory was ruined by their 12 second-half wides.

Turley's first-half goal came after an excellent break by Mark Downey.
