Monaghan great Kieran Finlay dies after a long illness

Monaghan GAA is in mourning after the death of the county's former football star Kieran Finlay, who has passed away after a long illness.

The Ballybay man, the father of current Monaghan player Paul Finlay, will be fondly remembered for his outstanding display in the 1979 Ulster Final.

He scored 1-9 in the decider against Donegal and also won Ulster Championship and NFL medals in 1985.

Kieran also won four Dr McKenna Cup medals with the Farney County.

In addition, 'Jap' won Monaghan championship honours with his beloved club and was highly respected in his native county, Ulster and beyond.
