Down pulled off an impressive two-point win over All-Ireland champions Dublin at Pairc Esler to make sure of their Division One survival.
Aidan Carr scored four early points and corner half-forward Mark Poland got two as Down established a handy half-time lead of 0-8 to 0-4.
Dublin's hopes were revived in the second half when Kevin McMenamin worked his way through for a goal.
Benny Coulter came on as a sub and scored a point as Down claimed the win.
It was the second week in a row Coulter had come off the bench and this was his 70th league appearance for the Mourne county.
Carr, Kevin McKiernan, Ambrose Rodgers and Niall McPartland also chipped in scores as Down deservedly kept the Sam Maguire holders at bay.
"I think we caught Dublin with their eyes off the ball. We are not going to read too much into this," said Down manager James McCartan.
"At half-time we challenged the players. We mentioned we had been leading in the 2010 All-Ireland final but did not win.
"The boys put in a battling performance and it looks like we are safe in Division One."
