Donegal minors beat holders Cavan in Ulster opener

Cavan's Conor Smyth is challenged by Dara Mulgrew in the minor game

Willie Gillespie's second-half goal helped Donegal to a surprise 1-11 to 0-10 win over Ulster minor football champions Cavan at Breffni Park.

Cavan scored the opening three points but Donegal hit back and Dara Mulgrew's point put the visitors ahead.

Cavan's Vincent Coyle saw his goalbound shot blocked as Donegal moved into a 0-8 to 0-4 lead at the break.

The holders closed the gap to one before Gillespie netted and Donegal eased to a four-point victory.
