Antoinette McKeown of the Consumer Council has been appointed the chief executive of Sport Northern Ireland.
She is the first woman to become CEO of the public body for the development of sport in Northern Ireland.
McKeown succeeds Nick Harkness who served as acting CEO following the resignation of Eamonn McCartan.
Sport NI chair Mr Brian Henning said McKeown had come through a rigorous recruitment process and had impressed the selection panel.
"I look forward to an exciting period of growth for sport in Northern Ireland and have no doubt Antoinette will lead Sport Northern Ireland's excellent teams, to deliver significant benefits to all sections of our community, whilst ensuring our high performance sport programme is given appropriate priority," he added.
Sport NI said McKeown would take up her new post in the near future.
