Northern Ireland rider Michael Laverty came in 17th in Sunday's Catalunya MotoGP race in Barcelona.

The Toomebridge man, on board a Paul Bird Motorsport machine, is still seeking his first points of the season.

His team-mate Broc Parkes was 16th in a race won by world champion Marc Marquez with Valentino Rossi second and Dani Pedrosa third.

It was a seventh straight victory for the young Spaniard, who is now 58 points clear in the series standings.

It was the 62nd podium for Marquez and the 100th MotoGP win for Honda.

"It's so nice to win in front of my home fans," said Marquez. "The last laps I made a comeback after nearly clashing with Valentino early in the race and felt really strong.

"It was a great tussle on the final lap first with Valentino then with Dani. This is special."
