Carrickfergus rider Glenn Irwin has landed a coveted ride with one of the leading teams in the paddock for the 2016 British Superbike championship.
Irwin will compete for the Paul Bird Motorsport run Be Wiser Ducati outfit, with Shane Byrne as his team-mate.
The 25-year-old Northern Irishman is currently third in the British Supersport series, in which he is racing for the Gearlink Kawasaki team.
Irwin is hopeful he will race at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.
The triple Irish champion will be on board fully factory-supported Ducati Panigale R machinery, with testing scheduled to begin immediately after the final round of this year's championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
"Glenn is a rider I've had my eye on for a while and is a huge talent so now is the time to step up to a Superbike and I've every confidence in his ability," said team owner Bird.
As well as establishing himself on the British short circuit scene in recent years, Irwin has made a significant impact at the two local international road races, marking himself out as a star of the future in that discipline of two-wheel motorsport.
