Eugene Laverty maintained his sequence of points finishes in every round of this year's MotoGP championship as he took 13th place at Mugello on Sunday.

The performance saw the Toomebridge man pick up three points to lie 10th overall in the standings on 36 points.

The Aspar Ducati rider achieved his best MotoGP result with a fourth in Argentina in early April and has also had a ninth and two 12th places.

Jorge Lorenzo snatched victory by just 0.019 seconds from Marc Marquez.

A dramatic last lap saw reigning world champion Lorenzo and Repsol Honda rider Marquez swap places three times before the Movistar Yamaha man caught the two on the run to the line.

The race became a battle between the duo after Valentino Rossi's Yamaha blew its engine with 15 laps left to run.

Andrea Iannone completed the podium positions in third.

Lorenzo leads the series on 115 points, 10 points ahead of fellow Spaniard Marquez.
