Michael Laverty will join James Ellison to compete for the McAMS Yamaha team in the 2017 British Superbike series.

The Toomebridge rider has ridden for the Tyco BMW outfit for the past few seasons but missed out on a place in the top six Showdown in 2016.

The 35-year-old finished in eighth position in the overall standings.

The Team Traction Control run team has previously competed in the British Supersport championship and Tarran Mackenzie will race in that class.

"I'm really excited to be joining the McAMS Yamaha team for the 2017 season. The R1 is a fantastic motorcycle, it's a bike built for the race track in many ways," said Laverty, who won races at Silverstone and Thruxton this year.

"I have very fond memories of being on Yamaha machinery before and the DNA of the R1, both in terms of power delivery and chassis performance suit a smooth rider, something that is well aligned to my natural riding style."

Meanwhile Carrickfergus rider Alastair Seeley is on the lookout for new machinery as his contract with the RAF Reserves BMW team has not been renewed.
