Haywood was the youngest swimmer to represent England at the 2002 Commonwealth Games when she won bronze in the 4x100m medley aged 15.
A bout of tonsillitis ruled her out of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, but she finished 11th in the 100m breaststroke and fourth in the 4x100m medley at the Beijing Olympics four years later.
