John Joe Nevin booked his place in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight division at the Olympics on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old from Mullingar was an impressive winner over Kanat Abutalipov of Kazakhstan in the last 16 bout.
Nevin, twice a world championship bronze medallist, won the bout 15-10 and is now one fight away from a medal.
He has improved on his result from the Beijing Olympics when he reached the last 16. He will fight Mexico's Oscar Valdez in Sunday's quarter-finals.
