Schurter wins cross-country mountain bike gold

Switzerland's Nino Schurter has won mountain bike cross country Olympic gold, to add to his four world titles.

Schurter, 30, was in a close contest with defending champion Jaroslav Kulhavy of Czech Republic until midway through the fifth lap, but then raced clear in the final five kilometres.

Two-time Olympic champion Julien Absalon of France was expected to challenge, but finished eighth.

Spain's Carlos Coloma took bronze, with Britain's Grant Ferguson in 17th.
