GB held to draw in men's hockey

Great Britain's men's hockey team are out of the Olympics after they drew 1-1 with Spain in their final pool match.

Britain's draw left them needing Belgium to beat New Zealand, but the Blacksticks won 3-1 to end GB's hopes.

David Alegre put the Spanish ahead on nine minutes, before Sam Ward's equaliser with seconds remaining in the opening quarter at Deodoro.

Ashley Jackson thought he had put Britain ahead in the second quarter, but his goal was ruled out.

"Results had to come and we shouldn't be relying on other teams," said Great Britain captain Barry Middleton.

"We were there but we didn't take the chances. Sometimes that's how sport goes."
